66th Annual Emmy Awards: Seeing Red

Christina Hendricks looked radiant in a gold-embellished red satin gown by Marchesa. The hue beside her porcelain skin and red locks just worked.

Another Mad Men star, January Jones, took to the red carpet in the scarlet hue, opting for a more modern gown by Prabal Gurung. A plus that we get a peek at her enviable Christian Louboutin’s.

Minnie Driver just hit it out of the park with this Marchesa gown. Regal, classic and a beautiful fit.

Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting opted for a youthful, frilly strapless number with this dress by Monique Lhullier. A good match for her new pixie-do’.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, prior to her win for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, entered in a more simplistic, belted dress by Caroliona Herrera.

Claire Danes went a little less traditional, with this gorgeous belted lace Givenchy with sheer back.

This Years Emmy Awards Swag Bags Valued At Over $50,000

Swag bags have long been a decadent extra for Hollywood’s glitterati, and this year’s take-home exceeds the $50,000 mark. Below is a list of the lavish trips & treats that can be found in this year’s swag bag.

Trips:

The most luxurious item is the 5 day vacation to the Mulia Resort in Bali, valued at $10,000. Stars will stay in the hotels signature Ocean Court rooms, enjoying an authentic Balinese spa treatment and dinner beachside.

If your favorite film nominee hadn’t clocked enough tanning hours while in Bali, a 4 day vacation at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun is also included. Valued at $2,000, there is a Jack Nicklaus golf course on the property and a 39 room spa if the goal for the getaway is relaxation.

After nearly two weeks of fun in the sun, stars can cash in their vouchers and head to Aspen’s The Little Nell Five-Diamond Resort (see main photo). Where they can ski on Aspen Mountain and enjoy Colorado. This trip is valued at over $4,000.00

Treats:

LIQRpop’s are a fun addition to this year’s bag. LIQRpops are an ice pop on the outside with a full serving of alcohol on the inside. You can sip it straight from the pop or add it to your favorite frozen drink. Something for the after party perhaps?

Stars need their beauty sleep and Maxim Mattress gifted a $3,000 lux queen size mattress complete with a $1,000 gift certificate.

Extras:

If stars are interested in learning about their future they will receive a $1,500 Breakthrough Blueprint Reading from famed psychic Joanna Garzilli. Garzilli is known for “mapping the soul’s purpose and the life you’re meant to lead.” Maybe they could ask her if a win is in the cards next year.

Most celebrities love to entertain. Corazon’s Custom Catering gifted a $225 catering package that stars can use on throwing an intimate dinner gathering for 10-15 of their closest friends. On the menu? Filipino-French fusion.

And last but not least, just because the Emmy’s are over doesn’t mean the training sessions are. Stars work hard to look their best and now nominees and presenters can score $700, or roughly six months, of training sessions at the David Barton Gym.

Kelly Osbourne to Share her ‘Stories’ Through Fashion this Fall.

Debuting next month on HSN.com, ‘Stories’ will reflect British influence and a feminine aesthetic, embodying Kelly’s personal love of fashion, while offering sizes 0 to 24. Osbourne believes women should have access to distinct, flattering ready to wear no matter their size or shape.

“This is a line for every woman to make her own memories and tell her own stories,” Osbourne states. “I realized that each garment in my closet told a story, both good and bad. There was the dress I wore on a first date, and the dress I wore that got me on every best-dressed list. I’m excited to see what incredible stories women will create with pieces from this collection!”

Thirteen ready to wear looks will debut on HSN.com on September 25th including a patterned jumpsuit, a chiffon blouse, and two dresses, a cap-sleeve sheath dress and a drop waist Union Jack inspired piece.

The collection’s separates are estimated to be priced between 55 USD and 170 USD respectively. Stars such as Taylor Swift and Ciara are already inquiring on how they can obtain a piece to create ‘Stories’ of their own.

Osbourne went on to say, “I believe that every time you wear something, you have a story of where you wore it, whether it be good or bad. My mission is not to be the number-one fashion designer in the world. I’m not trying to change or come up with anything that people haven’t already done. I’m just trying to make fashion fair and make good quality basics available to all women.”

A standout detail in the ‘Stories’ line is the fit. Osbourne and Jupi designed the pieces with exceptional tailoring, using shape wear-inspired paneling throughout some of the collection. Helping the collections tops, bottoms, jackets and dresses present slimming silhouettes. Osbourne also made the line mix and match friendly. Sweaters will be available with removable collars, while other pieces will feature bows you can detach for a more basic look.

The line will debut this September across HSN’s three platforms, online, mobile and TV network.

“HSN is thrilled to partner with Kelly Osbourne and Jupi Corp to be the first to launch this stylish new collection,” said Anne Martin Vachon, Chief Merchandising Officer for HSN. “Kelly knows what it takes for women of all shapes and sizes to achieve their own personal style and we look forward to her sharing her story with our millions of customers in September.”

We are looking forward to it as well.

Remembering Robin: A Short Synopsis of a Lifetime of Laughter

While the pangs of his all too soon loss are still fresh in our hearts, let us instead of dwelling in the sadness over the method of his passing, draw attention to a few of the countless beautiful things he has said and done in the years he had. In no way can a singular article such as this truly capture the spirit and essence of this beloved gentleman, but it can serve to help us celebrate his life by looking back with fondness on the smiles and belly laughs he brought to millions, both old and young. In no particular order, here are eight of Mr. Williams’ most notable roles, powerful quotes, and life achievements, which truly highlight him at his best for the wonderful man he was, and will always continue to be.

1.) Portraying a unique variation on one of the most famous literary children’s characters, Mr. Williams as Peter Banning (Peter Pan) in “Hook,” 1991:

Granny Wendy: So… your adventures are over.
Peter Banning: Oh, no. To live… to live would be an awfully big adventure.

This incredible twist of a sequel plays on the classic fairytale and tells the story of an adult Peter Pan who married and grew up to be a cutthroat lawyer and lost sight of his heroic and magical past. With the help of Tinkerbell and other old friends, he returns to Neverland after Captain Hook kidnaps his children. Peter reclaims his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy and remember the joy he once felt of being “the boy who never grew up.” Taking this notable role to heart, Robin won us over with his award winning and touching performance. He taught us to have faith, trust, and pixie dust– and that simply living was the greatest adventure of all.

2.) His role in the incredibly moving film Dead Poet’s Society as English teacher John Keating who inspires his students to “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may… Carpe Diem, boys. Seize the day…”

Dead Poet’s Society was a secret club dedicated to taking the meaning out of life. To do so, the members would sit in a cave near a certain pond less than a mile from school grounds and recite poetry with one another. With this new and innovative idea in his student’s heads, and despite Keating’s unorthodox teaching methods and idealistic methods, the boys are inspired and decide to start up the society once again. “We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering – these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love – these are what we stay alive for.” -John Keating (Robin Williams)

3.) The admirable and deep friendship between Robin and the late actor Christopher Reeve

Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve met when the two actors became roommates, and were studying at the Juilliard School in 1973. They became great friends, and before they became famous, they promised each other that whoever made it would take care of the less fortunate one. But they both became successful in their careers, and remained close friends throughout. After Reeve’s suffered his paralyzing accident in 1995, Williams vowed to pay for any hospital costs that weren’t covered by Reeve’s insurance, and also helped in founding The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. Robin promised Chris on his death bed in 2004 that he would take care of his son, and he had kept his promise ever since. Williams still claimed that Christopher was and always will be his best friend. That is true friendship at its core, and now, the duo have no doubt been blissfully reunited in healthy peace.

4.) One of his most notable and inspiring quotes detailing a plight of our everyday lives and our confidence of our own importance.

“no matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.” – Robin Williams

Despite how small we as human beings may sometimes feel, and in moments which we are weak and believe as if our opinions do not matter, Robin ensures us that despite how the world may tear us down and lead us to believe that we are insignificant– this is certainly not the case. Despite that he himself was overcome in a moment of weakness, his end should not overshadow the bright moments like this that he shared with the world.

5. ) Robin Williams has actively supported the following 28 charities and Organizations (and more!) by donating his time, promotional efforts, and funds towards a plethora of causes close to his heart:

Aid Still Required, American Foundation for AIDS Research, Amnesty International, Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, Augie’s Quest, Bob Woodruff Foundation, Celebrity Fight Night Foundation, Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, Comic Relief, David Foster Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Dogs Deserve Better, Dream Foundation, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Heifer International, International Medical Corps, Keep Memory Alive, LIVESTRONG, Love Our Children USA, Luke Neuhedel Foundation, Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, MusiCares, Prince’s Rainforests Project, Prince’s Trust, Robert F Kennedy Memorial, Smile Train, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, UNICEF, USO

If this lengthy list of his charitable gestures is not a prime example of the nature of good which can be found in this world, I don’t know what is! For a man in a position of global fame and a modest fortune, to say Mr. Williams’ compassion is ‘admirable’ is not accurate enough a term. His heart was as big as they come and the desire to help in all areas of life no doubt filled his days with joy, and others with hope.

6.) The unforgettable Disney Voice of a Generation

Williams, the singing as well as speaking voice of the lovable and magical Genie of Aladdin, solidified his place among the pantheon of Disney voice actors. Children who grew up on his whimsical catch phrases and charming demeanor will forever feel the impact of this enchanted , one-of-a-kind character. Parents and animation fans alike laughed along the way as he improvised and morphed the character into the enthusiastic and excitable. We’ve never had a friend like you, and we never will again.

7.) He was a multiple time Golden Globe and Academy award winner as well as host!

From his 1998 Academy Award win for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Good Will Hunting) to his Golden Globe wins in 1992-1994 (Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, The Fisher King) Mr. Williams never lost his laugh. The attention and fame never went to his head and overshadowed the joy for his art, as he continued despite all his recognition to stick to his comedic roots, never changing for anyone. Alongside Alan Alda, and Jane Fonda– Robin Williams served as the third recipient of the honor of a master of ceremonies for (arguably) the world’s most famous award ceremony! In 1986 the trio of hilarious hosts brought the house down for the 58th Annual Academy Awards and secured a place in revered entertainment history.

8.) “Comedy is acting out optimism.” The legendary comedian was globally idolized for his hilarious deliveries, memorable one liners and jokes, and his incredible impressions.

Robin was once asked by a reporter what he said to aspiring comedians who asked him if they should be a comedian.

He flatly said, “I tell them no. Don’t do it.”

When asked why he would say such a thing he replied; “If they have the drive to make it; they’re not going to give a f*** about what I say. And if someone quits because I say that; then they weren’t going to make it anyway. I just saved that person from wasting their time.”

What has been listed above is only a short glimpse into the life of a man who was more than the entertainer most knew: a father, husband, mentor, role model and friend. Let us be reminded in this time of grieving to respect the privacy of those close to him, and not get negatively wrapped up in the nature of social media. It’s all too easy to transition from honoring his memory to prying for information and garnering attention.

I, like so many others, sit struck with this news, but attempt to humbly write on behalf of many. Despite my attempts to transcribe just how much his work and influence has meant to the world– even still, words fail. Robin Williams made the world laugh, and now with his memory he is making the world cry. A great and irreplaceable light has gone out, but from all of us to you, sir: may you have a beautiful journey onwards and rest in gentle peace free of the worries which weighed on you. The laughs and priceless memories you have created for those behind you will guide you on your way.

Dolce Gabbana Presents: Alta Moda F/W 2014/2015

The island of Capri in southern Italy was host to a breathtakingly magical show by iconic fashion house Dolce & Gabbana last week as they presented their Alta Moda F/W 2014-2015 collection.

To start the show, models arrived by boat to the cliff-side catwalk on the beach to present the beautiful ‘Italian Couture’ collection. Colorful, oversized, princess ball gown skirts swept along the dusty runway as the light of the setting sun gleamed into the intimate setting. The nautical stripes and floral prints on the skirts paired beautifully with the jewel-encrusted bodice tops.

And of course, no princess would be complete without her ornate jewels and golden crown.

The essence of the old country was richly felt throughout the collection. Classic silhouettes of the full skirts, cinched waistlines and high-waisted shorts paid tribute to a bygone era. The styles were those that would transcend seasons, but summer was felt in the retro nude and jewel-embellished swimsuits. Not to be outdone by the elaborate gowns that came before, the sensuous suits were paired with luxurious hooded fur coats and boots.

Other pieces in the collection included sophisticated tweed daywear dresses paired with beaded sandals in bright hues or classic black and white. In addition to the royal-inspired crown jewels, models were accessorized with chandelier earrings and parasol with cat-lined eyes and flawlessly up-swept hair.

Overall, a fantastically divine wardrobe for the jet-setting, stylish woman.

Miami Swim Fashion Week Spotlight: Wildfox Swimwear

Displaying styles reminiscent of what you would see at an early 90’s beach club, Wildfox designer Kimberley Gordon, brought together an eclectic blend of styles for the SS2015 Swim show this week in Miami.

Fun and youthful in nature, the suits ranged from teeny bikinis, to full-coverage one-pieces, offering versatile choices for many shapes and sizes. The palette was also a fun blend of summery brights, neons on black and muted pastels. High-cut, branded and slogan-emblazoned one-pieces were a mash-up of Barbie meets Baywatch.

Gordon also presented a floral selection of bikinis that were more Avant garde than ready-to-wear.

The strength of the collection was the classic styling of the black string bikinis. Accessorized perfectly with oversized sunnies and casual drawstring pants, the look was effortless and chic. A high-waisted gingham two-piece was a popular retro favorite and the Hawaiian-inspired, palm frond adorned pieces, topped with a floral head crown, also wowed.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Kicks Off Miami Swim

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim kicks off this evening at the beautiful Raleigh hotel. The hotel is a South Beach icon with its gorgeous pool, romantic eateries and legendary reputation for hosting the hottest summer parties. The shows are set to take place throughout the hotel and grounds, from poolside collection presentations, such as tomorrow evening’s showing by Poko Pano, to penthouse suite debuts by designers Clover Canyon and Rip Curl.

The smell of salty sea air mixed with the sweet anticipation for this weeks new lines is pure heaven.

As we await the start of the illustrious event, we did some research on a few local eateries to satisfy your palette. All of the Vespa’s buzzing around the city made us dream of Italy and last week’s Dolce & Gabbana seaside show, so we went on a hunt for good italian fare. A number one choice for great pizza in Miami is at Lucali. The small, but decadent, menu selection offers a vast array of calzones, pizza, and salads, and for dessert the Nutella Pie is a must. Even though it IS bikini season, just a sampling of this rich dessert will satisfy.

For some fresh Miami seafood, visit My Ceviche. A small eatery that offers seafood galore. A good choice for lighter fare, My Ceviche offers an array of Ceviche bowls topped with corn and sweet potato.

And last but not least, if you’re feelng adventurous, or want to try something new on your visit to this balmy beach city, visit Florida Cookery. You can graze on culinary rarities such as squab, Floridian quail, alligator empanadas, or wild boar chops. For dessert, there is more traditional selections such as chocolate ganache cake or espresso ice cream for a cool way to keep you up for all of the week’s events.

While you await the 2015 Spring/Summer swimwear offerings, make sure to pick up the Summer 2014 issue of Runway, on newsstands now and available on the RUNWAY US app to see all of THIS seasons hottest swimwear trends.
