Kendall Jenner Buys a $6.9M Luxury Mansion in Hollywood

Another member of the extended Kardashian clan has made a pricey real estate purchase? It’s a shocker!

Young Kendall Jenner recently purchased a five-bedroom home in Hollywood Hills from actors John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. The luxury property in Los Angeles was put on the market for $8 million in January; in April the price was cut to $7.5 million. Jenner purchased the place for $6.9 million.

The 4,800-square-foot home above the coveted Sunset Strip could be considered pricey even for the neighborhood—it’s right down the street from a listing currently on the market for $5.45 million.

The contemporary home sits at the end of a gated driveway that is “set amidst complete privacy and overlooking beautiful city views,” according the listing description. Jenner’s new pad also features an outdoor fireplace, pool, and plenty of room for entertaining. #party!

Jenner, the 20-year-old supermodel and designer for the Kendall + Kylie fashion line, seems to be taking after her younger sister, Kylie, who recently purchased a six-bedroom home in Hidden Hills. Jenner is upgrading from her two-bedroom apartment to a more spacious home with a luxurious feel and modern architecture.

The home’s all-white walls are supplemented by brick accents throughout. The interior is bright and open thanks to the natural light pouring in from the abundant windows

Jenner’s new home has a large master bedroom with a walk-in closet extension. As expected, the dream closet is all-white with the exception of the marble-topped island, which is the centerpiece. But will her closet fit her Victoria’s Secret Angel Wings? Fingers crossed…

The luxurious bathroom is white and serene, featuring a stand-alone tub, marble countertops, and a floor-to-ceiling windowed door that leads to the backyard.

We can’t deny that Jenner has great taste in real estate, but how long until the TV personality gets bored and moves on to her next property conquest? Perhaps she’ll go for the $30 million house she rented for 4th of July weekend.

Karl Lagerfeld: Paris ‘Is a Nightmare Now’

Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Paris fashion house Chanel and one of the industry’s top designers, says the city that his company has called home since 1909 is now an unsafe “nightmare.”

In an interview with CNN, the 82-year-old German-born fashion icon — who has been head of Chanel since 1983 and has lived and worked in Paris since the mid 1950s — said the city resembles nothing like the “old French movies” it used to look like.

“This is not the most glamorous moment in Paris,” Lagerfeld told CNN Style’s Derek Blasberg ahead of an upcoming show. “Paris by night is a nightmare now. It is not a cliché anymore.”

“I must say, in my whole life I never saw Paris that gloomy,” he added.

The designer said the streets of Paris have become significantly more unsafe in the years since he first got his start in the 1950s under the tutelage of French fashion legend Pierre Balmain.

The city has been rocked by terrorist attacks in recent months, including a November 2015 citywide attack that left 130 people dead and more than 360 injured.

“It was another world. There was no feeling of danger, and not even a boy of 16 years old could walk in the street,” Lagerfeld told CNN. “Things are changing, but I have a feeling I lived in a world that no longer exists.”

Lagerfeld also lamented the weather, strikes and demonstrations in the city but said he doesn’t mind all the changes, because he works mostly in his studio and in Rome, where he frequently travels for work.

Still, he says, “Paris has to make an effort to become Paris again.”

Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2016-17 Couture show was held earlier this month at Paris’ Grand Palais. Actors Will Smith and Jessica Chastain took up seats in the front row and chatted and snapped pictures with Lagerfeld after the show.

Katy Perry is the most followed person in the Twittersphere

If you don’t already follow Katy Perry is high on Twitter. The 31-year-old has just reached a social media milestone by becoming the first person to have over 90 million Twitter followers.

“It’s party time, @katyperry!” Twitter’s official account tweeted. “With 90 million on the guest list, we’re gonna need a really big dance floor.”

Lindsay Lohan turning 30 and writing a book

Lindsay Lohan is being reflective as she celebrates a milestone.

Lohan, who turns 30 on July 2, told Vanity Fair she is planning on writing a book.
She said she is “very excited to share my personal experiences in life and how to overcome obstacles.”
“I hope that my words will connect with those who need some guidance when [or] if they are in a tough place,” Lohan told the publication. “I am grateful that I have a voice, which I can now feel comfortable using as a platform to let people know that we all have ups and downs in life, and we can all come up from the downs if we get in touch with our inner self and spiritual side.”
The “Mean Girls” star, who became better known for brushes with the law and rehab stints than her acting, said she is looking forward to her future.
“Making more films, writing my book, starting my charity, working with children a lot,” is how Lohan said she envisioned the next decade of her life. “Maybe having some of my own soon—after I get some movies done, first.”
As for her past — Lohan says she has no regrets.
“I can’t turn back time,” she said. “But if I could, I would have listened more to my mother and gone back home to N.Y.C. earlier in life and chosen my friends more wisely.”

New robot AntiAgeist to help judge Beauty.AI 2.0

Insilico Medicine enrolls a new algorithm evaluating perception of human age into Beauty.AI, a beauty competition judged by a jury of robots

Summary:

  • Beauty.AI 2.0 is the second beauty competition, where humans are evaluated by a panel of robot judges with prizes for human participants and for innovative algorithms
  • Insilico Medicine developed an algorithm called AntiAgeist, which compares actual human age with “perceived” human age predicted by deep neural networks
  • The algorithm is part of Insilico Medicine’s effort to build a comprehensive and actionable deep–learned biomarker of human aging and general health status recently published and available at Aging.AI
  •

June 27, Baltimore, MD – Youth Laboratories, the organizer of the first beauty contest judged by a panel of robots today announced the inclusion of AntiAgeist, an algorithm evaluating the difference between the chronological age of contest participants and the age predicted by a system of deep neural networks trained to predict human age.

Beauty.AI is a platform where both humans and algorithms compete for prizes to explore new ideas and strategies that may be used to impartially evaluate human beauty. Beauty.AI 2.0 contest started in May will conclude in August 2016. Humans are welcome to download the Beauty.AI mobile app and submit series of pictures to this competition before 19th of July.

The contest is sponsored by multiple cosmetics and IT companies supported the contest including Nvidia, Ernst & Young, Microsoft, Imagene Labs, Faberlic, Klinikk Oslo, Asia Genomics, Insilico Medicine, and many others.

“We are very happy to have AntiAgeist on our jury of robot judges, since this is a rather novel idea of looking at beauty through the prism of how successfully the person is aging. We encourage teams from all over the world to submit algorithms and ideas on how machines can evaluate human beauty to the Beauty.AI contest. Best algorithms will get monetary prizes and will be promoted worldwide”, said Anastasia Georgievskaya, general manager of Beauty.AI.

Insilico Medicine specializes in drug discovery and biomarker development for a broad range of diseases with a mission to accelerate and improve lead generation and pre-clinical studies within biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. One of the core missions of Insilico Medicine is extending productive longevity and the company engages in a broad range of basic and applied research projects focused on human aging.

“While our business focus in on applying deep learning to drug discovery and lead generation, from its very inception Insilico Medicine is committed to aging research and it is only natural for us to combine blood and tissue-specific transcriptomic, metabolomic and blood biochemistry markers with imaging. Inspired by Microsoft’s How-Old.net, AntiAgeist is a result of these experiments and we are happy to pass it over to Youth Laboratories for the Beauty.AI contest”, said Alex Zhavoronkov, PhD, CEO of Insilico Medicine, Inc.

Earlier this month Insilico Medicine signed an exclusive agreement with Life Extension, a major nutraceutical product vendor to collaboratively develop set of geroprotectors, natural products that mimic the healthy young state in multiple old tissues. This products are able to increase rejuvenation rate of the human body and slow down or even reverse aging process.

Recently Insilico Medicine published several key papers on applying deep learning techniques to biomedical applications in influential peer-reviewed journals including “Deep learning applications for predicting pharmacological properties of drugs and drug repurposing using transcriptomic data” in Molecular Pharmaceutics. The paper received the Editors’ Choice Award from the American Chemical Society. “Applications of Deep Learning in Biomedicine” in also in Molecular Pharmaceutics and “Deep biomarkers of human aging: Application of deep neural networks to biomarker development” in Aging, one of the highest-impact journals in aging research.

This Year’s Latest Trends in Sunglasses

In anticipation of the International Sunglasses Day, Edel-Optics reveals the shapes, colours and features that are on trend this year.

‘This summer, we shall see glasses in panto or butterfly styles everywhere,’ says Phil Thomas, vision specialist at the online opticians Edel-Optics . Men and women alike are going for round frames with lenses that are slightly flattened at the top. ‘Ladies like their glasses a little larger and more feminine. But this year, the glasses will not be quite as oversized as last year,’ Thomas says about this year’s trend for the lifestyle accessory, which even has 27 June dedicated to it as ‘International Glasses Day.’

New trend: matt colours and tinted lenses: In addition to rounded shapes, frames in matt colours are playing a large role – in line with the matt vehicle colours that have become popular of late. ‘This makes the model appear softer and more understated,’ explains glasses expert Thomas. Models with mirrored lenses are a totally different matter. While the colours blue, orange and green continue to dominate, the new thing this year is the so-called graduated mirror finish, which means that the glass becomes gradually more transparent towards the bottom. A small help to all those who are desperately trying to look the other person in the eye.

Niche market: sustainable sunglasses: According to Edel-Optics expert Phil Thomas, there is also a new trend emerging with respect to the materials used in the manufacture. The frame of a pair of 2016 sunglasses is no longer made from a single material. The arms could be made from plastic, for instance, but the rims and bridge from metal. There are even sunglasses for vegans this year, which do not involve any animal products in their manufacture. Fair-trade wood is being used instead. ‘But this market is still very limited,’ says Thomas.

Anybody who wants to play it safe will choose a classic, such as the Ray Ban aviator glasses. This year, the glasses company has combined the two models Round Metal and Club Master to produce the Club Round, which can even be combined with coloured lenses. ‘We dug down deep into the trend chest for this,’ says online optician Thomas.

In the Gucci range, floral patterns and the famous red-green colour combination are immortalised in the glasses’ arms. Versace, for its part, has its aficionados sport its logo, the head of Medusa, on their faces this year. And sunglasses from Burberry are also gaining in popularity – ‘not well-known as a glasses designer normally, but making great strides this season,’ according to Thomas. People also increasingly reviving grandma’s frames with new lenses and a little beauty treatment.

Louis Vuitton’s second Hackathon with Anaplan a huge success

PARIS, June 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — “Unlock Supply Chain,” the hackathon organized last weekend by Louis Vuitton with Anaplan, the Smart Business Platform™, and BeMyApp at Ecole 42 was a resounding success. The idea involved inviting several students to dive into the world of Louis Vuitton’s Supply Chain in a 48-hour hackathon, with the ultimate goal of developing a future supply chain model for the luxury leader using the Anaplan platform.

“The results are stunning, it is incredible to see what can be the output of several intelligent brains working together during less than three days,” declared Franck Le Moal, Louis Vuitton’s Information System Director.

“It has been tough for the jury to decide on the winner. We are amazed by the solutions brought up in such a short period of time. Some of the students had never even heard of the supply chain before the challenge,” explained Vincent Barale, Louis Vuitton’sSupply Chain and Logistics Director.

“The Hackathon experience has been a great privilege for Anaplan,” says Edouard Fourcade, General Manager France, Anaplan. “First, we were faced with the strategic issue that Louis Vuitton operates one the best supply chains in the world, if not the best. This demonstrates the potential business value that Louis Vuitton sees in Anaplan. In addition, the Hackathon format meant that students had only one weekend to complete a project based on a new technology they have never seen before. This just proves how versatile and user-friendly the Anaplan platform is, providing the ability for enterprises to deal with an ever-changing world. It is with enthusiasm and gratitude that Anaplan experts lent themselves to the game of coaching in this innovative project.”

More than 50 students and post-graduates from leading French Business and Engineering schools came to participate in the supply chain challenge (HEC, Centrale, Ponts et Chaussées, Ecole 42, Efrei, Epitech, Kedge, Etna, Essec and Arts et Metiers…). The scope of the hackathon was centered around 13 suppliers, seven workshops, 500 product references, a central warehouse, and six distribution centers.

The first prize was granted to the PLAN!T team (Coach Gabriel Eteneau’s team). It answered the following challenge: to anticipate production needs according to the daily sales level. The purpose was to simplify both the operations and planning, and to speed up the information process. A better life for all operational and executive users! The team won a trip to Los Angelesand a selection of Louis Vuitton products.

Second prize was awarded to the Make It Easy Team (Coach Soichiro Ando’s team). Their focus was to make the supply chain simpler and more efficient while taking into account the volatility of demand and the environmental impact.

Team “Supply The Future” finished in third place (Coach Xavier Rouault’s team). The goal was simple: to use new technologies like RFID to anticipate in real-time future sales in Louis Vuitton stores.

A special Anaplan prize has been awarded to the Maru’s Angels team (coach Maru Vasquez). “We recognized the relevance of the Anaplan model built by the Maru’s Angels team,” says Jérémie Brunet, EMEA Senior Consultant Manager, Anaplan. “The students were able to grasp the power of our platform in short notice and to produce an accurate supply chain solution.”

Rare blue diamond sells for record $57.5 million

The world’s largest blue diamond, an extremely rare gem known as “The Oppenheimer Blue”, sold for $57.5 million at Christie’s Geneva Wednesday night, making it the most expensive diamond ever to be sold at auction. The sparkling gem sold to a private collector, whose identity Christie’s has not yet revealed.

Mounted on a platinum ring and flanked on either side by a trapeze-shaped diamond, the 14.62 carat Fancy Vivid stone is the largest and best quality blue diamond ever to appear at auction. In blue diamonds, Fancy Vivid describes stones that are medium to dark in tone and strong to very strong in color saturation.
It was named after its former owner, the late Sir Philip Oppenheimer, a diamond dealer whose family owns the influential diamond company De Beers. The Oppenheimer steals the title of world’s most expensive diamond from the 12.03 carat “Blue Moon of Josephine,” which held the previous record at $48.4 million.
That rock was bought by Chinese property billionaire Mr Joseph Lau in November, for his 7-year-old daughter Josephine. Blue diamonds are exceptionally rare, comprising only around 0.0001% of the world’s diamonds, according to Christie’s. Of this tiny fraction, only about 1% are classified as Fancy Vivid, helping to explain the Oppenheimer’s wallet-melting price tag. They are second in rarity only to red diamonds, of which there are only around 100 known record stones in the world. The Oppenheimer’s record-breaking sale comes a day after the 15.38 carat “Unique Pink” sold for $31.6 million at a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva — the highest price ever paid for a pink diamond of that category.
