Inside the L.A. Temptation Media Day at L.A. Coliseum

The players seemed anxious to get their game on and step out onto the field in anticipation of Friday night’s pivotal event.

L.A. has quite a bit riding on Friday nights contest in that it may determine whether or not they move on to play in the LFL Conference Playoffs in Miami, Florida on Thursday.

The thing going on right now, is the Western conference is in a 3 team tie because of what happened in regular season. Here is the 411 if I am not wrong. Dallas beat LA but lost to Seattle who LA won and that means San Diego needs to lose Friday night to the LA Temptations by 32 points or more for LA to continue. Confused yet? trust me, I was when they gave us the info.

“We worked really hard for this and we’re ready” said a confident Michelle Jacot during our exclusive interview with her following the media event.

The LFL’s Lingerie Bowl is set to air opposite the NFL’s Superbowl halftime show on February 7th, 2010.

The team was introduced individually, then ran some drills to show the media in attendance they where more then just a handful of girls that did not know how to play the game and after the drills, they fired off a few plays, held the normal sideline interviews, posed for more photos, and headed back to the locker room for final preparations for the final regular season game against San Diego that would be held right there..

From The First Lady to Avatar, Jennifer Bryan talks Fashion

Meet the head costume designer for The CW hit TV series The Vampire Diaries, Jennifer Bryan. This creative genius got her start on Broadway before getting the opportunity to work as costume supervisor on the highly regarded film “Goodfellas.” Jennifer’s attention to detail caught the eyes of a number of filmmakers including Director Martin Scorsese and as a result Jennifer’s excellent craftsmanship she has since worked on over 20 films.

Jennifer’s talents as a costume design have also made a stylistic impact on television. She designed for James Cameron’s cult series “Dark Angel,” which starred Jessica Alba. Among her other television credits are “Northshore” and “The Agency.” In addition, she designed NBC’s popular “Las Vegas” where she created looks for A-list actors Josh Duhamel, Molly Sims, Cheryl Ladd and James Caan.

Now, Jennifer is getting rave reviews for her most recent work on the CW series “The Vampire Diaries.” From young, hip, ahead-of the-curve styles, to accurate 18th century period costumes, Jennifer is showing her talents and setting trends, week after week.

Runway sat down with Jennifer to discuss her fashion icons, favorite costumes and the thought process behind each one of her designs.

Tell us about your fashion icons. Who are they and why?
Two names snap to mind; Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaultier. Vivienne for making the early torn and tattered punk influence in fashion at all levels and her use of traditional Scottish tartans in those sick, sick, sick peplum suits. You had to take an elevator to wear her platform shoes- ask Naomi Campbell! I love the fun, yet architectural approach to her designs. Jean Paul is an icon because he takes to his clothes and in his case, the non-traditional materials he incorporates, in his designs. His last runway show featured a denim jacket with double waistbands, and palm fronds on the rest of the collection. I loved it all.

Give us some insight on why you design what you do for each character on the show.
On “The Vampire Diaries” my designs and costumes for the actors are definitely driven by the character that each actors plays. The clothes shouldn’t distract you but subliminally reinforce the character for both the actor and the viewer. On the practical side of what I do, I have to be aware of what’s going to unfold in the episode by prepping so that the clothes are appropriate. For the character Elena, I keep her look clean and simple; jeans and a scoop neck top is something I like put her in. On the other hand, Caroline is your cheery cheerleader so I dress her in miniskirts, flats and I recently teamed up her miniskirt with patterned thigh high socks and a denim jacket.

What is the best part about your job?
I love watching the episodes to see how everything comes into play with the costumes, characters, and surroundings.

If you could design anything for anyone, what would it be and why?
Wow if I could design anything for anyone. Good question! I would have to say The First Lady and Oprah. They both have a pretty good fashion sense however, I’d just like to get a crack at them and design something new for both ladies.

What top 5 movies or TV shows do you think had the best costumes? Why?
I have to admit I don’t get to watch as much TV and movies as I’d like, but I do have some favorites including “The Book Of Eli,” which I loved the monochromatic palette and adaptive use of apocalyptic clothes by designer Sharen Davis. The costumes were fantastic! I also enjoy “Mad Men’s” costumes because they portray a sexed up version of the 60s and the look really works for the show. I was fascinated by “Avatar” because of the delightful fantasy of color and was glad that for “Sherlock Holmes” the costume designers didn’t put Robert Downey in that cap and pipe thing. Now my all time favorite, even though it’s not a current movie, would have to be Audrey Hepburn’s outfit in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” where she has on a Givenchy’s LBD with the stacks of pearls, black gloves, and tiara. It’s such a timeless look!

Picking your Perfect Winter Pieces

This season’s accessories mark a significant change in fashion trends, as they show a beautiful mix of the soft and the sophisticated. Fabrics are rich, colors are bold, and the era of investment dressing is back with a vengeance. Gone are the days of the clashing colors seen during the spring and summer, and in their place we find bold single pieces that are able to make a statement all on their own.

In fact, this season has so many luscious bits for you to choose from, it may be hard to know where to start!

The true beauty of this season is found in its versatility. The pieces that you choose this fall are ones that will become staples for years to come, and “Runway” has put together this guide to help you in your quest.

The Chic Chain Bag

A look made famous by the one and only Chanel 2.55, the chain strap is back this season in some new and exciting ways. Bags themselves are smaller, and boast a more petite shape than that of their predecessors. Go for styles designed for across the body wear that will give your look a modern edge.

Cinch Your Shape

The structured coats and soft sweaters gracing the runways this fall are the perfect way to show off your cinched-in shape. While they can be worn loose, you can also pair either of these looks with a great belt to enhance your curves. Styles range from wider belts in soft fabrics that are worn high on the waist, to the skinny patent leather varieties that can be layered low on the hips. Give yourself choices, and you will have endless ways to change your look.

The Classic Scarf

Always a staple when the weather turns brisk, the scarf is being shown in new ways this season. While it is always smart to invest in a classic piece in a rich fabric, these new varieties take a modern twist on this classic choice. This season, knitted collars are being shown in many collections. They can be worn around the neck for warmth, or as a type of hat that fits loosely over the head. Choose a bold color or pattern to pair with a more traditional outer layer.

Make a Statement

Regardless of the type of piece that you choose, keep in mind that this is the season to let your accessories do the talking. It may be a killer set of Dior pumps, or a gorgeous Chanel bag, but whatever it is, be bold, be daring, and be ready to work it!

Donatella Versace: Rock and Roll in Fashion

Bold, sexy, sleek; these are but a few words that describe the new line of Versace, but the words could easily be used to describe the woman behind the name. To say that Donatella Versace is a force to be reckoned with is an understatement, and this strong and talented designer has weathered a number of storms throughout her illustrious career.

Born May 2, 1955 in Reggio di Calabria, Italy, Donatella was the youngest of four and the daughter of a personal financier and dressmaker. While she may have been the youngest child in her family, she was definitely not the meekest. In fact, the designer was often referred to as a wild child, and she can accredit this to her older brother Gianni Versace, who brought out this side of her.

And it was that older brother that brought Donatella Versace into the world of fashion in the 1970’s. After attending Florence University, Donatella Versace joined her brother’s design house and began working for him in public relations. Although she was behind the scenes for much of the 1970’s, Gianni Versace often referred to the blonde-haired designer as his muse and even dedicated his perfume, “Blonde”, to his younger sister.

In the 1980’s, Donatella Versace moved into the mode of being a fashion designer and was given her first diffusion label by Gianni, the Versus label, which remains a well-known line in the Versace house to this date. There was little doubt that Donatella Versace was graced with an amazing sense of style and an innovativeness that helped launch the Versace name and kept it strong in the fashion industry for decades. In fact, Donatella Versace introduced the idea of using well-known models on the catwalk shows in the effort to increase the press coverage of their runway shows. Her idea was a success and since then, the Versace label has been associated with a number of celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Elizabeth Hurley.

While there has been much success for Donatella Versace and the fashion house, there is a private side to the designer which is shadowed by many hardships. Donatella married American fashion model Paul Beck in 1987, and the couple had two children, Allegra and Daniel, before they divorced.

In the late 1990’s, tragedy struck the Versace family when Gianni Versace was murdered in front of his Miami home. While some were expecting the collapse of the Versace fashion house, Donatella left the public eye with her family and retreated to the Caribbean in an effort to mourn the loss of a cherished brother and uncle.

By the summer of 1998, a year after her brother’s death, Donatella was once again in the public eye. After deciding to not only save but also revitalize the Versace label, she launched her first collection for Versace Atelier. The show itself was a huge success, and it continued to prove that Versace was still a prominent name in the fashion world.

With the launch of her first collection, Donatella Versace continued to build on the house of Versace. She still followed the same styles that exuded sex and glamour while continuing to bring a modern edge to the design house that can be seen in the fall/winter 2009 styles. Pure colors are still the signature of the house, with black and white being used for the customary impact along with a number of vibrant colors.

The lines continue to be straight and completely feminine. The notable quote of Donatella Versace is seen everywhere in the new face of Versace, “My inspiration is still rock 41

In addition, Donatella Versace took the company into unchartered waters, branching into the world of luxury hotels. The first hotel, Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast of Australia, opened its doors in 2000 and since then, there have been plans for several more hotels to add to the already prosperous brand.

Despite the success of the brand’s many ventures, Donatella has still maintained many of the friendships with celebrities that have made the line such a success over the years. She has currently teamed up with January Jones from “Mad Men” to be the current face of Versace for the new launch, which is scheduled for September 25, 2009. The line itself is captivating and very reminiscent of what you would expect from the Versace label with patent leather, pure colors in a range of shades from signature black and white to dark purple and blues, with tight, straight lines. However, Donatella has also added a softer side to the line with flowing sheer fabrics and softer edges.

In addition to the line, Donatella still takes the opportunity to donate her time and the Versace name and is involved in the Art Unites, which is a collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art’s education department. Through this project, children are encouraged to create drawings, which will be appearing on Versace tote bags and are available at Versace boutiques with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the charity.

Today, Donatella Versace’s collections celebrate the sexual nature of woman. The lines exemplify the curves and beauty of a woman’s form, and her attention to detail combined with her drive for perfection has seen the label continue to be a viable product, even in today’s economy.

She continues to surprise and delight, and her designs can be seen on and off the red carpet, proving yet again that sensuality laced with a touch of rebellion is still a hot commodity in today’s fashion world.

For more information on Donatella Versace’s newest collection visit http://www.versace.com/.

You can also follow the launch of the new face of Versace and roll, but now it’s lady rock and roll. The look is more refined and more glamorous,” she said to Reuters.

However, the fashion designer did not feel constrained in the world of couture and has catapulted Versace into a cult brand that has many different branches including its fashion house, fashion accessories and home furnishings. She launched her own fragrance, “Versace Woman”, in February 2001 and has had continued success with public relations for the company.
