THE MAN BEHIND THE MUSIC: GEORGE HODOS TALKS FASHION

Meet, Russian singing sensation George Hodos, who has made his mark on the music industry in a short period of time. From his fashion sense to his amazing singing talents, George is one artist you need to watch in 2010.

George found success with his debut album, which was aptly titled “The Voice.” George’s single, “Where Do I Go” helped him skyrocket to the top of the Russian charts making him a household name in his native country. Now George has aimed his sites on the United States with the release of his new album “George Hodos- Just A Man.” George’s first single off his album, “Just A Man” featuring Snoop Dogg which will be released May 4th, has already topped radio charts appearing on Billboard’s Mike Bordes Sprint Radio Alltel Playlist, Nextmusic Charts, and is currently #32 on Billboards Promo-only Chart.

We got to chat with this music genius to discuss his personal style, favorite designers, and how his music and style go hand in hand.

What would you say is your personal fashion style?
It’s elegant but simple! My style consists of mostly soft colors such as black, beiges, and blues. I like high quality fabric and generally not with too much detail, so to say. I never want my clothes to cover my personality, I want my clothes help express my personality.

How does your music influence your fashion style?
They complement one another. If you ask me to describe my music, I would use almost the same words as I use to describe my style: simple and elegant with a soft colors, very high quality production and a lot of expression.

Who are your favorite designers and why?
Armani. He has great style and perfect taste. His collections never scream, but instead they tell a story. I also love the Russian designer, Sergey Soroka. He used to be my personal stylist for many years. His style is close to Armani but a little less conservative when it comes to the clothes he wants me to wear on stage. Sergey really knows how to work with colors and always knows which colors complement each person. Clothes are a special language for me. Clothes help us to connect with the world and create a beauty every day.

Meet Tegan Taylor, the Make-up Artist Behind Avatar

Tegan Taylor has been on the cutting edge of her craft for the past decade. As Make-up Department head on this year’s largest grossing film, Avatar, Tegan’s versatile skills and expertise have allowed her to work with some of the entertainment industries biggest names.

Tegan is a master of her artistry. In addition to being an accomplished beauty make-up artist, Tegan specializes in make-up effects used in advanced digital filmmaking. As a result of her unique talents, she has worked closely with many of the leading visual effects companies today including Weta Digital, Sony Imageworks, and Robert Zemeckis’s “Image Mover’s Digital.” Most recently, Tegan completed “The Adventures of TinTin,” directed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, as well as “Mars needs Moms,” directed by Simon Wells, which are both due out next year. However, it is Tegan’s current body of work in the film “Avatar” that has generated the most buzz for her career thus far.

As the Make-up Department head on “Avatar,” Tegan worked closely with James Cameron and Weta Digital to create makeup that would work with the new technology being used. Her unique skills, involving the use of specialized make-up, led to the creation of Tegan’s virtual make-up lab “MoCap Fx.” There, she created the unique phosphorescent make-up used to capture the amazing images you see in 3D on “Avatar.”

We sat down with this creative genius to discuss the process behind her never before seen makeup, what it’s like working with film legends, and the beauty products she can’t live without.

Tell us about your special process towards makeup in Avatar?

When I first began my work on Avatar, the products I needed simply did not exist. I had worked on a number of 3D features in the past, so I was no stranger to the task at hand, but the requirements for Avatar were extremely different. Amazing virtual cameras had been designed for each actor to wear on their head. These cameras captured detailed footage of each actor’s facial movements and eye movements. In the past, we used hundreds of reflective beads to capture this facial data, but to support the advanced computer system in place for Avatar, it was decided that paints would be used instead. In the months leading up to our first day of principal photography, I established my own virtual make-up lab: MoCapFx. There, we created the virtual facial paints needed for “Avatar”. Products compatible with the advanced computer system being utilized using pigments with fluorescence and phosphorescent properties, I worked to design customized formulas that were highly dense and resistance, in custom designed colors that were keyed to our computers and compatible with our virtual needs.

Tell us how your process differs in digital filmmaking than other makeup artists in regular movies.

All of the products I used on Avatar were designed exclusively for the process: Our amazing phosphorescent paints, as well as our unique application brushes and portable mixing trays, allowing for quick on-set touch ups. The application techniques we used were unique to the process as well. We started the process by painting a detailed “grid,” consisting of hundred of specific marks, on each actor’s face. The grids mapped out the actors’ individual facial structures, allowing us to capture their unique facial movements. Once the grids were in place, we scanned the actors’ faces and had them perform a variety of facial movements, which we then recorded to capture their unique expressions. Whenever our actors worked, their grids had to be absolutely identical to the first image we scanned, so we transposed their grids onto clear vacuform masks, which we then used as a template for each actor. Each day of filming, we painted the identical grid back onto the actors’ faces with special phosphorescent paint. Because placement and symmetry were so important, it was crucial that our make-up artists were highly skilled and detail-oriented.

How do you translate your knowledge of makeup to digital filmmaking?

The work I do for this cutting edge form of filmmaking requires great precision and an eye for fine detail. Dealing with high profile actors requires that all the products I use are completely skin safe, and irritant free. I train my team to work fast, yet with precision. As a make-up artist in traditional beauty techniques as well as special make-up effects, I’m able to accommodate the needs of the visual effects team, as well as cater to the needs of my high profile actors.

What was it like working with James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver?

The experience of working directly with James Cameron was amazing. He is a perfectionist in every sense of the word, and he expects everyone to be on his or her mark at all times. Not only is he a brilliant director, but he is a talented artist as well, and he had complete respect for the work we were doing. Sigourney Weaver is a class act. She is an amazing woman, as well as an incredible actress, and she was an absolute delight to work with. I worked on Avatar for two years. It was an experience I will never forget.

What are some makeup brands you enjoy working with and why?

I love La Mer skin products. It makes my actresses feel pampered. Sigourney Weaver has been using La Mer for many years, so I made sure she was stocked up at all times. I also love Clinique! My young actresses love it because it keeps their skin blemish free and my actors like it because it’s clean and fresh. Other brands I adore: Chanel, Armani, Benefit, Senna, Bobbi Brown, Neutrogena, and Cle’de Peau.

Four Secrets to Making Yourself Irresistible!

While your appearance will no doubt play a part in getting a guy you like to notice you and ask you out, there are many other factors which actually play a much more significant role in the long run when it comes to being attractive. Unfortunately, if you are like a lot of women, you may be spending far too much time worrying about your hair, your makeup, your thighs, and your wardrobe than considering who you are as a person and how you act in those early critical stages of a relationship.

Those early stages can make or break the chances of a budding relationship turning into something more serious. And most of you are probably looking for something long-term rather than endless casual dates that go nowhere. Even if you’re not, you probably want to be in the driver’s seat rather than being the one who gets left by the side of the road. Following are several secrets which, if mastered, will make you irresistibly attractive and greatly increase the odds of keeping his interest for the long haul.

1) Confidence, confidence, confidence!

One of the most attractive traits you can have is confidence. We are all naturally drawn to people who are self-assured and confident. Part of the reason for this is because we tend to admire people who have traits we would like to possess ourselves. And confidence is one of those traits so many people lack. Also, if one already possesses a positive trait, we are drawn to others who have it as well.

Confident people are appealing because they act from a position of strength. That is, they don’t give their power away easily, and thus are more in control when it comes to interpersonal situations. A truly confident person usually has high self-esteem. As a result she is typically less “needy” in a relationship, drawing others to her, rather than repelling them like needy people do.

Now you may be thinking to yourself, if I am lacking in confidence how do I get it? Well, there are many things you can do to build your self-confidence which are beyond the scope of this article, but the first thing you can do is to “act as if”. This can actually be quite powerful if you do it consistently.

Practice acting as if you are confident. Standing tall and looking people in the eye when you talk to them are two good places to start. Observe others who appear confident and model their behavior. Smile and say hi to people and initiate conversations. You may be quaking in your boots on the inside, but only you need to know that! Acting “as if” is a great way to begin developing any desirable trait, and the more you do it, the more it will develop. Most men find confident women to be very attractive!

2) Stop being so nice…

This is a far more crucial aspect of attractiveness than most people realize. First, let me clarify that there is nothing wrong with being a truly nice person, IF you are doing it for the right reasons and if you have a lot of other great qualities to go with it. Unfortunately, some people act nice because a) they need to compensate for a lack other positive qualities; b) they are incredibly insecure and desperate to please; or c) they want something from you. In these three cases, “nice” is not really a good trait and makes a person anything but attractive, and a guy will pick up on these pretty quickly.

Have you ever met someone who you thought was “really nice” at first, and then in time, when they didn’t get what they wanted from you they suddenly turned on you and showed a very dark side? Or, perhaps you’ve met people who are nice in that they are so desperate to win your approval that they always agree with you, always laugh at your jokes, and will do anything you ask them to. Now, how much respect do you have for people who are like that? Probably very little, if any. And if you met a guy like that, you’d probably run the other direction, just as he will with you!

Most men desire a woman who is secure enough to stand up for herself, say no, disagree, and express her opinion even when it is the opposite of his. Not only is it intriguing, it shows confidence and strength. This isn’t to say you should never agree with him or that you should shove your opinions in his face at every opportunity. Rather you want to show that you don’t need his approval; that you are your own person. And that makes you very attractive and interesting.

3) Never talk about your flaws!

Okay, I need to preface this with saying that down the road when you’ve been a couple for awhile it’s okay to share some of your most secret self doubts and insecurities. BUT, early on, don’t whine about your flaws! You want him focusing on your strengths and not your faults, so by all means don’t go pointing them out to him.

For example, like 95% of the women on this planet, you probably hate your thighs and wish you were 5-10 pounds thinner. But don’t complain to him about your less than perfect body. Save that for your chats with your girl friends. When you complain to him, he will feel pressured to reassure you and compliment you, which may feel uncomfortable to him. Let him compliment you when he genuinely wants to. Also, if you don’t like yourself, he may start wondering why he likes you. If he thinks you’re a great catch, don’t ruin his perception by trying to convince him otherwise!

4) Leave him wanting more…

This is vital, especially when you are first dating. It’s really easy to get caught up in your time together and want to spend as much time with him as possible. But trust me, you will be far more desirable if you are the one who ends your time together and keeps it on the short side. It’s kind of like a delicacy which you don’t get to eat very often. When you do, you relish each bite. But if you had it all the time or ate too much of it, you would quickly stop enjoying it as much.

Giving him too much of your time early on will make it very easy for him to take you for granted. You need to give him the chance to miss you and long to see you again. If you don’t, you will become far less special quickly. We always tend to put the most value on things that we don’t get to have quite enough, which always leaves you longing for more. That is the best way to win his heart…always leaving him wanting more of you. So, never overstay your welcome.

None of these secrets are meant to be manipulative, which is never a good basis for any relationship. Rather, they all come from a place of strength and self-respect, which is what makes them so powerful. Follow these tips because you value yourself. Ultimately, truly valuing yourself will make you far more attractive to the men who come into your life!

The STRUCTURE OF GAMES

MIND GAMES

When it comes to love relationships, most people play games. There have been a plethora of books and articles about such games. However, very few writings have been written about the structure and the structural components used to play such games. Here we examine the structural components and the manner in which they are used by players. This short article should provide the reader with a basic understanding of the games and how they are used.

Eric Berne wrote a 1964 best-selling book entitled Games People Play, a book whose title proclaimed exactly what the book described: the types of games people engaged in. These game types however, are not the kernel of our concern. What we are going to look at instead, is the manner in which such games are structured and played out; along with the labels of such structural components.

There are structured types of gaming components which fit under the rubric IMPRESSION MANAGEMENT. As humans social creatures, we tend to limit access to our “dirty laundry” and instead, we try to emphasize to others the positive aspects of our lives which hopefully props up the appearance of a polished game.

As humans, we all FRONT; that is we enact a contrived performance for others to view. If our games are polished, and others find our act believable, they will treat us according to the response we desired from them. If our act is not believable, then our whole presentation of self will be called into question. Once that happens, it’s difficult to recover. Just take for example the singing duo Millie Vanilli. Once it was discovered that they had earned a Grammy by lip-synching, their singing careers were virtually over.

People often take great pains to prepare their performance; their game. Such prep-work mostly occur BACK STAGE, a place where a person can both relax “out of character” and perhaps even plot strategy for the next staged activity. Most of the time it’s a good idea to restrict access to our back stage regions.

In order to enact a believable front, we need to know what a given role performance entails. We need to know how to go about planning our game strategy. To do this, we use SCRIPTS as our guides. We get ideas about scripted behavior from observing others. We observe them in the media; we observe them in our own daily lives; or we observe them vicariously through others’ lives. Once acquired, however, we put our own spin on these scripted roles so that they appear to be a natural part of our own performance.

As actors, we also utilize PROPS to enhance our performances. There are a plethora of available props for augmenting our staged performances. For example, we may try and appear wearing the right clothes; we may have surgery to enhance our looks; we may try and appear driving the right type of car. A recent ad for Mercedes read, “When wit and charm fail. The S-Class.” Other props allow us to hide our grey hair; or to even have hair!

Social performances often occur as TEAM-PLAY. It could be men versus women. Games may exist between management and labor; parents versus children. The examples are endless. A sense of morality and/ or loyalty to a particular team may script social behavior. For example, a man who spoils another man’s front in front of a pretty girl may be viewed as guilty of a “man camp violation” and may be expected to remedy any such behavior in future interactions.

In his masterpiece book STRATEGIC INTERACTION, Erving Goffman talks about the basic “moves” inherent with social interaction. Three of these basic moves have a direct bearing on our discussion. The first type of “move” that is basic to gaming is a COVERING MOVE. This type of strategic move is intended to hide or obscure negative information about us that would blemish our front. Men sometimes label their porn collection as “camping equipment” or some other tag that would seem somewhat uninteresting to a female companion; lessening the chance that she will have a desire to look inside any such container. Others may hide their Prozac container during the initial stages of dating (and perhaps even beyond).

The existence of a covering move makes possible the need for an UNCOVERING MOVE. Most of us realize that people front and aren’t always on the up-and-up. Therefore, people will use uncovering moves to get at the “truth” behind another person’s front(s). I hate to be the bearer of this news, but women tend to be better at uncovering than men.

There are a number of ways to discover or uncover the truth behind a front. The goal here is to unobtrusively glean clues as to another’s “true” motives for engaging in certain fronts. The masters of uncovering moves are the ones who not only understand the larger picture in which fronting occurs, but are also attuned to the nuances of how the drama unfolds in face-to-face interactions.

These masters are gifted at noticing the manner in which the “i”s are dotted and the “t”s are crossed. These gifted observers are the ones who realize that small clues reveal large motives. A former girlfriend of mine knew I wasn’t a morning person. On a number of occasions, she had asked me to accompany her to her parents’ house, to the mall, or to help her around the house at some early hour. Normally I found a way to get out of such requests. One day however, she noticed I was up very early. She asked me why I was up so early and I told her I was going hiking with some friends. She surmised from this incident that I enjoyed my friends more than I enjoyed her parents or helping her with the house chores. As a master of uncovering moves, my girlfriend had first asked me questions around the issue, rather than first assessing my motive and then accusing me directly. She had let me do the talking first, that way I had to stick to my story once I had realized she had “uncovered” me.

Once someone’s front is called into question because of an uncovering move, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the act is spoiled completely. Some actors don’t instinctively surrender their front or admit their uncovered motives for their actions. These types know how to talk their way out of a potentially blemished front. As soon as these guys realize they’ve been a victim of an uncovering move, they instinctively and smoothly attempt a COUNTER-UNCOVERING MOVE.

By now you’ve probably guessed that a counter-uncovering move is an attempt to “reset” a spoiled front. The recent series of TWIX television commercials are good examples of this type of move. In one spot, the man is attempting to quietly sneak in late without his wife knowing. She wakes up as he is next to the bed undressing. She asks him if he is just arriving home (uncovering move). He responds by telling her that he is actually motivated to go to work early (counter-uncovering move).

When matters of the heart are involved, partners are forced to communicate. And communicate they do! There are two main component types of communication. Goffman called the first type “giving.” “Giving” information means that the sender is aware of the type of communication they are transmitting. In short, this type of message is purposeful. This could be information as simple as matching your clothes; driving a stylish car; or any number of actions showing that the person is aware of what they are communicating.

The second type of communication Goffman called “giving off.” This form of communication is non-purposeful. That is, the person communicating such information doesn’t realize they are doing so.

One time when I was living at the college dorms, I had a friend whose girlfriend always seemed to know when he was “up to something.” Somehow she was able to read the cues he “gave off” that he wasn’t exactly as innocent as he tried to appear. One time he came back from some other girls’ dorm room. When his girlfriend greeted him, she smelled smoke on his clothes and immediately began to grill him as to his recent whereabouts. He fumbled through the interrogation, but afterward, he asked his girlfriend how come she had accused him of acting in a seemingly suspicious manner. With an air of smugness, she said, “You always click your teeth when you’re trying to hide something.” After that encounter, he worked on hiding that clicking noise.

In order to gauge someone’s social actions, Goffman described a natural benchmark he called an INVOLVEMENT CONTOUR. Goffman claimed that social life has a natural or normal social rhythm. A person, therefore, could be seen as violating such an expected tempo. Any such violation would “give off” a clue as to their true motive for engaging in such social activity. If a man is coming on too strong, he is violating the involvement contour and is thus “giving off” information about his motive for his actions. On the other hand, a lack of enthusiasm in a given activity may also “give off” one’s insincerity in an activity. For example, if a man seems distracted during foreplay while Sportscenter is on the television, his partner may glean his true motive as having a stronger desire to watch sports than to engage in sex.

The concepts illustrated in this article are not necessarily as cut-and-dry as they may seem from this short article. Because many of these concepts occur simultaneously, they are not necessarily obvious or always easily recognizable. For example, a person may enact a successful uncovering move based on information “given-off” of which violated the involvement contour. A person doesn’t necessarily need formal training in these matters to have an operational grasp of how they work. There are some who are “naturals.” But to learn about these concepts, and how they “work” within any relationship definitely gives the person with the knowledge a leg up.

Hot Jackets and Coats Fall/Winter 2009

Summer‘s faded away and new styles in jackets and coats seen on runways last spring are now in stores and making their way into closets. There are a wide variety of trends in outerwear this season, with classic and retro-inspired styles taking the lead. One of the dominant themes for Fall 2009 / Winter 2010 is investment dressing. In keeping with this theme, many leading designers included timeless designs for jackets and coats in their collections.

Biker chic is a hot trend this season, influencing boots, clothing and accessories. Black leather jackets embellished with studs and oversized zippers were striking entries in the collections of Jean Paul Gaultier, Robert Cavalli, Stella McCartney and Baby Phat. The leathers used this season are buttery soft with a more feminine twist on biker style with details like decorative topstitching, wide collars and body hugging tailoring. Layering a biker jacket over a feminine skirt or dress is one of the newest looks of the season.

Jackets influenced by menswear are another one of this season’s hot looks. Tuxedo and dinner jackets were seen on the runway in collections from Calvin Klein and Phillip Lim. These upscale boyfriend jackets can be coordinated with matching skirts and pants for a suited look, or worn over a short skirt with a bold animal or graphic print. The hottest colors for menswear-inspired jackets are black, white and shades of gray.

Another hot trend in jackets is the fur chubbie. This cropped fur jacket hearkens back to both the1970s and the 1930s. This season’s chubbies come in shades of black and gray, as seen in Lanvin’s collection, or are brightly colored. Colored fur jackets in deep shades of purple and magenta are purely fun and mostly for the very young, best worn over a light chiffon skirt or dress or a pair of jeans.

A tailored coat lends a classic touch to any outfit. Beautifully tailored camel coats in wool and cashmere are among the big ticket investment pieces for this season. Michael Kors, Jason Wu and Donna Karan all included classic camel coats in their collections. Tailored coats in basic black and gray are also a popular trend, as well as coats made of dark tweeds and houndstooth checks, which were shown on the runway by designers as diverse as Karl Lagerfeld and Jil Sander. In these days of value-conscious shopping, a classic tailored coat is a worthwhile investment.

Capes are one of the freshest trends this season. Available in a wide range of styles and fabrics, a cape is a great layering piece that can add an element of sophistication, fun or practicality. Almost every major designer included a cape this season, from Alexander McQueen to Louis Vuitton, to Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren. Most of the longer capes feature front closings and openings for the arms running the gamut from flowing ponchos to the very tailored. A well-made, timeless cape is another garment that promises its owner a long-term return on investment.

Statement Shoes

It’s been said that the “It” bag has been replaced by the “It” shoe, and at no other time was this more apparent than in the last two years of fashion. Last year, fashion houses gave us shoes that made everyone gasp and gape at the architectural—sometimes bordering on precarious and incredulous—silhouettes. Remember Marc Jacob’s misplaced heel? Or Balenciaga’s thigh-high gladiator sandals? We rest our case.

Ever since Miuccia Prada boldly proclaimed one of her most quotable quotes—you know, the one that spelled doom for many a coveted luxury handbags; “The obsession with handbags has finished a little now. It feels over. It’s about shoes now.”—designers seemed to have taken this as the license to frill. Yes, frill. As in extravagant, ornate shoe designs that, like in the case of Mr. Jacob’s gravity-defying shoes, are not necessarily the smartest, most practical options for our feet—but which we lust for anyway.

This fascination with frills, OTT embellishments and sculptural silhouettes on footwear was visibly sustained in the Fall/ Winter 2009 collections. This season, it was all about the boot. Thigh-high, ankle and bootie; leather, suede, studded and zipped. The season also showed—quite literally—fancy footwear, with extravagant add-ons like crystal-and-gold bows, stingray-print heels, lizard skin and studs on velvet.

Take a look at some of the statement shoes from the fall runways.

Marc Jacobs Metallic Leather Ankle Boots

Marc Jacobs has managed to resurrect something we’ve long considered dead in the fashion world: clogs. This deliciously off-beat boot-slash- clog features metallic leather, black suede ankle strap and a black four-inch heel with one-inch platform and eyelet details around it. How Jacobs managed to glamorize clogs is another testament to this maverick’s talent and undeniable appeal. He always makes us believe that trends don’t come and go. They always manage to make a comeback.

Nicholas Kirkwood Lizard and Suede Bootie

Now here’s a name that has sent everyone buzzing the last couple of seasons: Nicholas Kirkwood. You’ll immediately recognize a Nicholas Kirkwood creation when you see one; the vertiginous sculpted heels, the extravagant embellishments, rich materials, and, most notably, the slanted platform on the sole. This lizard and suede bootie features a 5.5-inch sculpted heel with his trademark one-inch slanted platform, but the real magic is in his uncanny ability to mix the most indulgent materials—in this case, lizard skin and suede. Also worth noting is Kirkwood’s work for Rodarte: bondage-inspired thigh-high boots.

Burberry Prorsum Leather Platform Pumps

We never thought we’d see the day when rubber heels will walk the couture runways. Never say never. Burberry Prorsum delighted the no-nonsense sensibilities of some fashionistas with their leather platform pumps with a black coated rubber heel. The same rubber heel was also on the fashion house’s leather and wood sandals and leather ankle boots. But then fashion cannot be this basic, can it? As if to assuage the utilitarian feel of their pumps, Burberry made sure to bring in big numbers: 5.5-inch curved heel with a two-inch platform. How’s that for a standout shoe?

Yves Saint Laurent Divine Peep-Toe Platforms

YSL’s Divine peep-toe platforms give new dimensions to the stiletto heel. The pencil-shaped heel measures 4.5 inches (with a one-inch platform). All eyes are on this dagger heel, especially with the stingray-print trim surrounding it (and the platform). Black suede upper and elasticated straps hug the feet in a snug fit—in anticipation perhaps of the slightly shaky ground born from this pencil heel.

Charlotte Olympia Ziggy Leather and Suede Ankle Boots

A new name in the shoe couture game is this London all-around “It” girl and designer, Charlotte Olympia. You may recognize her from society pages and party photos, and this hip, quirky, but so spot-on trendy vibe is exactly what she brings to her shoe designs. The Ziggy leather ankle boot has a patent ridged 5.5-inch heel and one-inch gold platform—a very modern Studio 54 take on ankle boots. A black leather and suede mix on the upper gives an interesting play on textures, while the zip fastening at the back features an unexpected but very sexy tassel.

Stella McCartney Perforated Thigh-High Boots

Stella McCartney’s anti-leather stance did not stop this PETA advocate from unleashing fierce footwear. How else would you describe this faux leather masterpiece that skims the entire legs? Perforation details, gunmetal sculpted 4.5-inch metal heel and .5-inch metal platform, square toe with metal trim, and stitch trim all add up to the unmistakable fierceness. Wear this pair with a coat or dress and you’re literally the cat’s meow.

John Galliano Lace-up Wooden Platform Pumps

John Galliano had some of the most interesting and visually stimulating shoe designs this season. The sky-high wooden platform pumps with six-inch (or i s it seven?) heels and one- to two-inch platforms remind one of those tricky geisha sandals. The lace-up details plus the pom-pom accent on toe make this shoe classic Galliano: bold, decidedly offbeat and beautiful. Another must-see is his towering wedge sandal, with its Oriental print—again, classic Galliano.

Balmain Suede Zipped Ankle Boots

After immortalizing the power shoulders with their now iconic jacket, Balmain is bringing in power shoes—and it’s just as provocative and statement-making. Black suede ankle boots have cross-over multistraps with silver zipper detailing. Almond toe and 4.5-inch heel with one- inch concealed platform add a feminine silhouette to these boots’ otherwise rebel yell aesthetic.

Chloe Bow-Embellished Suede Caged Pumps

If we were to find the anti-thesis to the Balmain boots, this would be it. These ankle-high black suede pumps have cutout cage details. But the crystal and gold bow embellishments, crystal studs between each bow, and pointed toe detail are feminine style updates to the caged heel (popularized by YSL). This pair is sweetness and spice epitomized. Zip-fastening at the back keeps the sweetness in check, while 4-inch heels give you the height you crave for.

Prada Studded Velvet Platform Sandal

It seems only fitting that we round off the list with Prada’s studded velvet platform sandal. The runways were replete with studs this season, and Prada had one of the best interpretations of this big fall trend. The whole shoe is dotted with studs—from the five-inch heel and one-inch platform, to the ankle strap and upper. Also creating much buzz in the Prada collection is the brand’s seeming homage to the Trojan hat: a velvet embroidered heel with fringe details that mimic the famous gladiator headpiece— and lots of hardware in the form of studs.Yet again, Miuccia Prada has made a bold statement.

Chelsea Hobbs Canadas newest voice

Chelsea Hobbs was born in Vancouver, Canada and has been singing, dancing and acting almost as soon as she could walk, performing for anyone who would grant her audience. Chelsea’s formal training began at the age of three, when she started dancing several hours a day, six days a week. Her parents, after divorcing when Chelsea was only seven, enrolled her in acting classes so that she would have another creative outlet. It took them no time at all to realize that Chelsea’s talents were too big for recitals and children’s plays. Over the course of her youth, Chelsea appeared in over 40 commercials and subsequently booked a role over hundreds of other girls in the kids’ improvisational TV series, “No Adults Aloud”. Chelsea’s educational career was quickly fast-tracked from an advanced secondary school arts curriculum, to being enrolled in an intensive acting program with students five years her senior and over, to graduating from home-school on-set at the age of 16. Chelsea’s lead role as “Gerda” in Hallmark’s “Snow Queen” and the Leo Award nomination she received for it, brought her attention from the States and before she knew it, she was living in Los Angeles with a TV pilot (“Save the Last Dance”) under her belt and a budding film career ahead of her. Over her several years of acting in L.A., Chelsea had a re-occurring role on the hit show “The L Word” and was fortunate enough to play a part in “Lords of Dogtown” with Heath Ledger as well as “Beach Girls”, a made for Lifetime movie with Rob Lowe. Her role in “Beach Girls” was such a hit with the network, Chelsea was brought back to star in more Lifetime films as the good girl gone bad in “The Party Never Stops: Diary of a Binge Drinker and Confessions of a Go-Go Girl”, which also led to her appearing on CBS’s “Cold Case” as a murderous pin-up girl. Soon after, Chelsea landed (or stuck, rather) the role of top gymnast, Emily Kmetko in ABC Family’s newest series, “Make It or Break It”.
