Runway's Top 7 Beauty Tricks to Try This Spring

1. A different part
Parting hair in a place that’s different from where you normally wear it is an easy way to create a whole new look without having to spend a dime at the salon, and it’s an easy way to add volume and lift to your current style. Try parting it on the opposite side from usual or create a zigzag part for volume at the root and a fun look.

2. Drink more water
A tall glass of cold water isn’t always appealing in cool weather but is very important for glowing skin. Maintain much-needed hydration by drinking eight glasses a day. As a bonus, eating fresh fruits and veggies can help add extra fluid to your body and makes staying hydrated a lot less boring.

3. Get your shine on

After a winter of cold, dry weather outside and warm, dry temperatures inside, your hair needs a bit of TLC. Repair your hair with weekly deep conditioning treatments you can get from beauty stores, or for more serious help, a good salon can offer treatments to bring back your hair’s shine and body.

4. A new hue
Make a subtle switch in your hair color to brighten up your skin tone for spring. Have a hair stylist add in very fine highlights around your face for an overall brightening, or go all over with a luscious red or chestnut brown. New hair color is a great way to boost your spirits after a long winter. Just remember not to change your hair color more than two shades darker or lighter than its current shade without professional assistance.

5. Kissable lips

Nothing says springtime more than a gorgeous shade of pink. With the vast array of pink lip color shades out there you can always find one to flatter your skin tone. If you have fair skin, opt for a pink lip color with cool undertones while olive or medium skin tones should stick with rich, warm peachy-pink colors. Darker skin tones should also use a shade with warm undertones but can range anywhere from a pale pink to a bright magenta depending on the exact shade of your skin. The darker your skin tone, the more pigment you can wear.

6. Hands free

Our hands are exposed to the sun just as much as our faces but are often overlooked when it comes to a good beauty routine. As we age, our hands can also develop age spots and wrinkles. Fight the aging process and keep hands feeling comfortable by slathering on a rich hand cream with SPF for sun protection.

7. Pony up
A ponytail is the easiest way to go from bad hair day to polished, or turn a daytime look into a chic and classic nighttime style in no time. Hide your elastic with a strand of your own hair wrapped around it and secured underneath with a bobby pin.

Spring 2011 Trend Alert: Spotlight on Details

Stripe Appeal

Whether on flouncy knit tops, classic scoop neck tees or nonchalantly sexy A-line skirts, stripes with either a demure or eccentric twist make their grand entrance into spring’s lineup of must-haves. Stripes are not new to the fashion scene; icons such as Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel were supporters of the traditional Breton striped top before it was even considered a trend. They’re now making a bold comeback thanks to imaginative designers: a nautical stripe motif was displayed at the Jil Sander’s show, Sonia Rykiel’s spring creations consisted of ‘70s-inspired bold diagonal striped frocks, and punchy, geometric stripes kissed Proenza Schouler’s collection. Junya Watanabe dipped tops and dresses into modernized Breton-inspired mod skinny stripes, while timeless Versace kept stripes vertical. Marc Jacobs dabbled in neon eye-candy colors on oversized stripes.

The re-emergence of stripes makes them a de rigueur staple for a fashion maven’s wardrobe. Designers mixed striped tops with striped skirts. Block-striped, painted dresses were combined with a pop of bright hued accessories, and figure-flattering geometric stripes were strategically placed on dresses, skirts and knit tops.

How to Be Striped Just Right

The updated stripe styles are more feminine, futuristic and vividly colorful than past stripe trends, so there is more versatility in the various looks that can be pulled off. How to stripe up your wardrobe:

1. Stripes worn with floral patterns are not a faux pas when accessories are kept low-key. Opt for a Breton striped top with a floral skirt and paired with a fitted blazer or lightweight cardigan in a solid color. Leave the necklace and bangles in your jewelry box.

2. Be aware of what you choose to emphasize. Horizontal stripes create the illusion of curves, whereas diagonal and vertical stripes give your body’s appearance some length.

3. Know your geometry to camouflage your less flattering areas. When worn correctly, geometric stripes do for your body what a great concealer does for hiding dark under-eye circles. When donning a dress or blouse that has a mix of block geometric stripes and skinny stripes, make sure the widest stripe hits the area of your body that you want to conceal.

The Amazing Lace

Romance tends to inspire each year’s spring collection. This season blooms with lace in a variety of vintage patterns and tonal shades of color. Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Zac Posen are just a few example designers that got in touch with their passionate psyche to present luxurious and femme styles graced in lace.

Lace details were displayed on the runways in the form of Chantilly lace, flirty ruffles and airy chiffon. Beaded and appliquéd embellishments were combined with lacy components to create art that is fit for a vixen. Skillfully weaved peek-a-boo lace panels and delicate lace are showcased throughout Ungaro and Nina Ricci’s collections. Antique lace in both white and beige were trickled throughout the collections of Dolce and Gabbana, and Anna Sui; the lace details oozed a bohemian and romantic vibe – fitting for the woman who loves all things girly. Christopher Kane and John Galliano expressed their love of a multihued lace motif in their lineup of spring styles, while candy-colored lace fabrics were spotted on everything from 1950s shift dress silhouettes to fitted pencil skirts.

How to Lace Up Your Wardrobe

Lace featured on the runways combined sophistication and effortless sexiness. From intricately stitched antique lace skirts to lace embroidered camisoles, lace has never-ending possibilities.

1. Just say yes to lace in the workplace, especially when a crisp, white button-down with lace detail is worn with a tailored skirt or pantsuit. As temperatures warm up, sport a lace shift dress with kitten heels to channel your inner girly-girl while maintaining your professional demeanor.

2. Go ‘70s boho with your choice of footwear and accessories. Just Cavalli’s antique lace-embellished sportswear was combined with funky accessories and wooden wedges, clunky bangles and pops of fringe detail. Whether you’re wearing antique lace on a dress or blouse, throw on a pair of wedged sandals for the perfect finish.

3. Keep is simple. Head to toe lace is a definite style don’t. If you wear a lace skirt, keep your top in a solid color and free from patterns. Pair a lacy top with a pair of dark denim skinny jeans or a black wide leg trouser.

All Eyes on Charlie Neff

In November 2010, recent college grad Charlie Neff moved to the heart of Los Angeles, wide-eyed and ready to pursue her dream of becoming the next big celebrity news personality. Soon after, Charlie was struck by the daunting realization that—with masses of Hollywood hopefuls flooding into the city each year—breaking into this extraordinarily competitive industry wouldn’t exactly be a walk in the park. So what’s a girl to do in a world where thousands are vying for the same gig she’s after? Well, Charlie did what only an inventive and truly determined individual would think to do: She created a job for herself.

Exercising her Communications and Broadcast Journalism background, Charlie began working tirelessly to forge a new breed of celebrity news and gossip columns that would somehow stand out from the countless others on the web. POPinionz.com, which launched in February 2011, is the manifestation of that vision. In addition to blogging about all the latest news in pop culture, Charlie actually attends Hollywood’s most buzzed about events and lands interviews with some of the biggest names in show biz, from actors Eva Longoria and Jared Leto to reality TV stars Kris Jenner and Audrina Patridge. After each event, she spills all the juicy details on POPinionz for us to devour. With dozens of original photos, Charlie’s witty, candid commentary, and even opportunities to win great giveaway items from the events, this entertainment blog allows its readers to vicariously experience the extravagance and excitement of the red carpet without ever leaving the comfort of their homes.

Not surprisingly, POPinionz reached nearly 20,000 views in its first month and continues to achieve thousands of views internationally each day. In light of its success, Charlie has found herself on a thrilling uphill trajectory—attending increasingly exclusive events, making regular television appearances, and being sought out by major Hollywood execs regarding future collaborations. There is no doubt that this vivacious young starlet will continue to wow the entertainment world with both her brains and inarguable beauty for years to come.

Runway couldn’t wait to sit down and find out more about this fascinating and—more importantly—fashionable new entertainment personality.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Runway Magazine: What is the most interesting encounter you have had with a celebrity?
Charlie Neff: Hands down, I’d have to say my encounter with Michael Jackson’s children—Blanket, Paris and Prince—when they made a last-minute appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards GBK Gifting Lounge this year. Word spread very quickly when they arrived, and every media outlet rushed over to their location. I figured, at that point, it would be total chaos, but everyone on the scene actually remained eerily quiet and just observed from a distance. Now, before you start commending us for being so considerate and respectful, I should mention how intimidating their entourage was. Each of them had their own personal bodyguard, and let’s just say those guys didn’t look particularly friendly. No one was allowed to photograph the children or even film them. It was so different from my typical experiences on the red carpet, but I definitely don’t blame them for wanting to step out and enjoy being a kid without worrying about crazy media commotion.

RM: You always seem so fearless on scene, surrounded by dozens of A-listers. What have you found to be the most important factor in breeding that kind of confidence?
CN: Honestly? My outfit. I absolutely love getting dressed up for events and putting together spicy ensembles. As a reporter, it’s really vital for me to nail those interviews and get a kick-ass story, but having confidence in how I look is such a huge part of what gets me there. If I look and feel red carpet ready, that conviction really transforms the way I carry myself out there and helps show both myself and others that I can hang with the big dogs. Not to mention, a cute outfit might just catch the eye of a hot male celebrity. I’m on the prowl, boys.

RM: Speaking of hot male celebrities, whose eye would you most like to catch?
CN: Alright, so I totally have a crush on Kellan Lutz and Trevor Donovan. I’m really into that clean-cut look. But of course, looks can only get you so far; the key to my heart is a quirky sense of humor. If you can keep me on my toes and make me laugh, you’re golden—Kellan and Trevor, take notes!

RM: What do you enjoy most about being an entertainment reporter?
CN: Everything! It’s just so completely exhilarating that it doesn’t even feel like work. My media team is absolutely amazing and we have a blast at all the events we cover. We’re always joking around with celebrities and we make it a point not to take things too seriously. It’s all about living in and enjoying the moment. And I definitely can’t complain that my job exposes me to all the latest and greatest fashion trends. I’ve always been a big fashion fanatic, so being up close and personal with all the amazing, lavish designs is such a dream come true.

RM: It’s certainly no secret that you love fashion. What trends are you most excited to see emerge this summer?
CN: I really love all the vivid colors that designers are splashing into their collections—gorgeous, bright colors are always great for summer. Also, feather accessories are getting increasingly popular these days. Whether it’s a feather in your hair, on your earrings, or even on your purse, this is definitely a hot trend to embrace. But what I love most about summer, especially living in Los Angeles, is that you can really take advantage of a good bikini. I’m loving the fringe detail we’ve been seeing on bikinis lately—super cute trend.

RM: You are known for wearing fabulous cocktail dresses on the red carpet. What are your favorite places to shop?
CN: I usually shop at Bebe, Arden B, BCBG, and—believe it or not—eBay. You can really find some unique dresses online at great prices! As for accessories, my friend Onch has a jewelry line called Onch Movement that I absolutely adore. He designs cute necklaces that look edible, like an ice cream sundae necklace or a whipped cream ring. They’re just so much fun! I love wearing anything that’s fun and flirty—such a great combination.

RM: Lastly, what are some projects you are currently working on?
CN: Well, I plan to continue reporting for my website and keep delivering all the juicy gossip to my followers. This summer, I’ll be covering the MTV Movie Awards and the Billboard Music Awards, which I’m pretty pumped about. Also, there’s been talk of possibly hosting a few television shows or even having my own reality show. How sweet would that be? Like I said, my team and I have so much fun covering all the hottest red carpet events, and I think people would really enjoy having a more intimate, behind the scenes look at what we do. We’re pretty damned entertaining. Just sayin’. Follow me on Twitter @CharlieNeff.

Marlies Dekkers wants you to see her lingerie.

Marlies Dekkers launched her first collection in 1993, two years after graduating from St. Joost Academy in the Netherlands as an art /design student. Since then she’s won numerous awards for her original and innovative designs, and attracted legions of fans in Europe and the U.S. Runway talked with this visionary designer about her journey and her plans for the future.

RM: Why did you decide to design lingerie?
MD: For my studies, I designed outfits that tended to look like lingerie. I wasn’t completely aware of this until one of my teachers pointed it out to me. For my final project at St. Joost in 1991, I won the Zeebelt prize, awarded to the best art student in the Netherlands. I received a grant from the Dutch Ministry of Economics and designed my own line, Undressed, which I launched in 1993. I find the female body very inspiring. I see it as my canvas and I want to frame it with my lingerie.

RM: You’ve been very successful as a lingerie and swimwear designer. Do you have plans to extend your brand beyond that?

MD: I already design all the interiors for my stores myself, including the wallpaper and the furniture. Last year, I designed a Christmas collection for the biggest warehouse store in the Netherlands. The designs included lamps, clothes (dresses, suits, baby clothes), cakes, champagne bottles and bedspreads. I really enjoyed it and would love to do this more often in the future. However, lingerie remains my main focus at the moment.

RM: Is there a difference in what European women and American women buy from you?
MD: More people in Europe already know my designs. In Europe, they don’t mind it if you see a little bit of the lingerie pop up over the clothes. The better people get to know me, and my designs, the more they understand my philosophy of innerwear as outerwear. For example, when new people start to work in my offices, they don’t wear the lingerie visibly at first. Then, slowly but surely, they learn to combine the lingerie with their clothes and they start to see it as an accessory to their outfits.

RM: You’re often described as innovative. When you were first starting out, was that your goal?
MD: I didn’t intentionally set out to be innovative. I just started a new way of thinking about the female body. Women were portrayed as giant froufrou bonbons in lacy lingerie, presented to men on a platter. I wanted to empower women with my lingerie. I design to please women, to make them feel beautiful no matter which size they are. I started designing different models to enhance the parts of the female body that were often forgotten, such as the bottom of the back or in between the shoulder blades. This is how my lingerie was conceived as innovative, and I believe it is important to continuously keep innovating and developing new designs.

RM: What is your single biggest inspiration?
MD: I find my inspiration in everything around me; art, literature, movies, choreographers, music, etc. I’m the creative director of my company but I also have a great team of creative people working for me. I sit with them to feed them with my ideas and inspiration. I go on trips to be inspired and also send my team to other countries to keep them discovering new ideas. They manage to translate my ideas and inspiration into beautiful lingerie.

For the Spring/Summer 2011 collection, I was inspired by all facets of the 1960s and ‘70s, like the French students in Paris, the fashion styles of the hippies, the music of that era – like Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger – the typesetters and photographers, like David Hamilton.
For my upcoming fall 2011 collection, my personal muse plays an important role.

RM: What is the thing you are most proud of?
MD: I am most proud of my daughter and of my company.

RM: What are you working on now?

MD: I’m working on the new brand segmentation of Marlies Dekkers. It’s a really exciting time for me. I won’t give away too much information but be prepared to be surprised!

Samantha Marq Interview

For fashion-forward musician Samantha Marq, the more shocking the ensemble, the better. But she keeps a rock-solid method to her edgy fashion madness; she balances her wardrobe with inspiration from just about every musical genre.

It seems as though Marq has always been surrounded with music culture and fashion. She grew up watching her father Michael Marquart (a former member of the new wave ‘80s band, A Flock Of Seagulls) run Windmark Recording, a prestigious recording studio frequented by the likes of Justin Timberlake and The Neptunes. After graduating from Pepperdine University, Marq met rapper/producer K.O (Britney Spears, Lil Flip) who has helped put her bold composition on the map. A combination of hip-hop, R&B and brave beats characterize Marq’s music, which she has described as a mix between Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah and the Black Eyed Peas.

This fair-haired bombshell’s debut CD, The Evolution of Love in Dysfunction, catalogs a time in her life when she was falling in and out of love, with each track representing a different diary entry. Her first single, Supergirl, established her as a rising star. And with an array of upcoming projects, some with high-profile artists, Samantha definitely won’t be missing the “marq” anytime soon.

Runway: Can you share with us some of your upcoming projects?
Samantha Marq: Right now I am working on the release of my second single called I Like to Party. I am really excited because The Cataracs and Dev remixed it and it sounds amazing! It’s coming at a perfect time too – their song Like a G6 with Far East Movement is #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 right now. I am also working on a mix-tape to be released at the end of November and my album titled The Evolution of Love in Dysfunction will be out at the top of the year.

R: Winter 2010 is packed full of fashions, new and old, surprising and boring. What are you most excited about?
SM: My favorite winter fashion trend would have to be leggings. I love leggings more than anything! They are so comfortable and you can wear them with anything. You can dress them down or dress them up. I’d have to say they are a definite staple in my winter wardrobe.

R: Which fashion are you least excited about?
SM: My least favorite (current) winter trend would have to be shearling clogs. I know that clogs are making their comeback but I don’t think I can jump back on that bandwagon.

R: What designer fits your personal style?
SM: There are so many designers that I absolutely love but I would have to say that Alice + Olivia takes up a majority of my closet. I love that their clothes are edgy, but classy enough for everyday wear. Plus, the pieces generally fit me really well – it’s nice to not have to get anything tailored. I’m also a huge fan of Robert Rodriguez. I have this one-shoulder long-sleeved dress from him and it is, hands down, one of my favorite dresses in my closet.

R: How has fashion affected your lifestyle?
SM: I love that fashion is a way to be creative and express yourself every day. My entire mindset changed when I came to the realization that getting dressed isn’t just putting on clothes; you are essentially painting a picture. Once I figured that out, I started to really notice fashion on the street, on TV and in magazines, and then draw inspiration from what I saw. Now I take pride in what I wear more than I ever did before, and as a result, I have a greater confidence about myself.

R: Everyone has had a fashion moment that hasn’t been their, well, proudest. Can you share your most embarrassing fashion moment?
SM: I have to say in high school there was a span of a few years where my fashion was only slightly less than horrifying! However, I did wear this uniform Boy Scout button-up once, thinking I was being fashion-forward, but I obviously failed miserably. My friends, to this day, still make fun of me for that outfit.

Kym Johnson dances with the stars

Since childhood she’s been tearing up dance floors in her native Australia, eventually starring on the first season of the Australian Dancing with the Stars in 2004. She won the second season with partner Tom Williams, an Australian television presenter. In 2006, Johnson was invited to join the cast in the U.S. and partnered with another television personality, Jerry Springer. In season nine, Johnson became the only dance professional to have won the title in two different countries, that after tackling a tango with Donny Osmond. Johnson also co-starred in the fitness DVD Dancing with the Stars: Cardio Dance. Johnson’s talent even had her entertaining guests at Elton John’s 50th birthday party. After being voted off with David Hasselhoff this season, she landed a gig as an E! News correspondent.

Runway: Who has been your favorite dance partner on Dancing with the Stars U.S.?

Kym Johnson: I can honestly say I’ve loved all my partners that I’ve been partnered with, but I do have a few favorite ones and Donny Osmond is up there. He is such a nice man and we did win the mirror ball trophy, which was the ultimate prize at the end of a huge dance journey. Joey Fatone was an incredible partner and of course Jerry Springer—my first U.S. partner—was so adorable.

R: Who would you like to have as your next dance partner?

KJ: The Rock. I think he would be amazing on the dance floor and he seems like he’d be a really nice guy and a quick learner!

R: If you could dance with anyone living or gone who would it be and why?

KJ: The obvious answer, I would have to say, is Elvis Presley. In my eyes he is the king of dance—he definitely knew how to swing his hips. And Priscilla was on the show. She was so lovely to get to know! I think that Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bill Clinton would also be pretty great partners!

R: Do you plan to do more seasons of Dancing with the Stars in the US or Australia?

KJ: It is the best show to be a part of and I would love to do more seasons.

R:What made you choose ballroom dancing over other styles of dance?

KJ: I trained in singing, jazz, tap and ballet from the age of three and worked at an Australian theme park in numerous shows at the age of ten. I then started ballroom at the age of 13. My brother was the one who started first because he fancied a girl at school who took ballroom and wanted to impress her!

I have been fortunate enough to travel the world dancing. I rejoined Burn The Floor late last year in New York City and made my Broadway debut, which was a wonderful opportunity.

R: You have a fitness DVD out. What is some advice that you have for someone considering dance as a form of fitness?

KJ: Everyone who does Dancing with the Stars has a body transformation. Dancing is such a great total body workout—you are focusing on the steps and forget you are working out. It becomes fun fitness.

R: Who are some of your favorite designers to wear on and off the dance floor?

KJ: For beautiful evening dresses you can’t go past Australian designers such as Collette Dinnigan, Alex Perry and Johanna Johnson. I also love Marc Allison jeans. They fit so well and are very comfy. I love fashion and I love dressing up for red carpets but I am also just as comfortable wearing my workout gear to the dance studio!

R: What are some of your secrets to avoiding a wardrobe malfunction?

KJ: The wardrobe department at Dancing with the Stars is simply amazing. I have often been sewn into dresses so I don’t have a malfunction. The wardrobe team on the show always makes sure you are firmly in the dress. Also, the good old-fashioned double-sided tape works a treat too.

Trevor Donovan interview

Runway Magazine: Did you always want to be in the entertainment industry?

Trevor Donovan: No. I actually wanted to be either a professional snow boarder or a fireman like my brother.

R: How did you end up on Days of Our Lives and 90210?

TD: I auditioned for the roles and luckily… I fit the parts!

R: Had you watched the show before joining the cast?

TD: I watched the original 90210. They actually filmed an episode in my hometown of Mammoth.

R: How do you feel about your character on 90210 coming out as a gay man?

TD: I’m very excited about it. Not only for me as an actor but to shed some light on how difficult it can be. It’s been so good, and I’m so impressed with the writing staff and production. Everything has gone in the right direction.
The fact that my storyline is coinciding so accurately with what’s going on in the news [teen suicides], I think it’s just an opportunity to really help these kids and hopefully, potentially, save people’s lives.

R: What was it like being a “surrogate” for Bruce Willis?

TD: Surreal. I grew up with Bruce Willis movies and getting to work with him was an amazing opportunity, he was really nice. His daughter, Rumer, was in a few episodes of 90210 season two and at the Surrogate premiere Rumer, Bruce and I chatted it up. Also, I developed a friendship with the director Jonathan Mostow. Long story short (hate that quote), it was great.

R: You’ve been a model for both Abercrombie & Fitch and Calvin Klein. What kind of style do you wear in your day-to-day life?

TD: I’m developing a style, but as of right now my style is clean or dirty.

R: What are some of your hobbies/things you enjoy?

TD: Surfing, volleyball, weightlifting – basically all types of fitness. Aside from that, reading. I just finished the Hunger Games Trilogy, which I highly recommend. Suzanne Collins is on my must meet list. I also play guitar, write music and sing (MP3 Twit TrevDon).

R: Where can fans see you next?

TD: Follow me on Twitter—@TrevDon—any projects, events, etc., are updated there.

Nora Kirkpatrick Interview

Kirkpatrick can be seen with her psychedelic folk-rock band – that has at least 10 members at any time – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. She plays the accordion, assists with vocals and dabbles in tambourine. Yes, she occasionally wears suspenders to shows. Yes, she has been approached by European accordionist groupies. On the verge of turning 26 years old, her upcoming project, All Together Now, (currently in post production), is a film about a group of young adults that attend a rock concert in the middle of the woods.

Nora talks to Runway about her upcoming exhibitionist role, her style “problem” that can’t be fixed and what makes a man fashionable.

Runway: Among all of the characters you have portrayed, is there one where you could relate to the fashion the most?

Nora Kirkpatrick: I’ve always felt that Katherine, my character on ABC Family’s Greek, is the version of me who majored in political science rather than theater. I love her J. Crew wardrobe but it’s not something I readily wear in my daily life. It’s always an adventure to step into someone else’s shoes on set and, in this case, stepping into pleather ballet flats was a nice departure from my knee-high boots.

R: Does your character Kylie in All Together Now have a specific style?

NK: Kylie is an exhibitionist and that free-spirited attitude is represented in her clothing. I wore short shorts, a tank top with my bra showing, chains galore and I had a Phoenix tattoo airbrushed on my chest. She definitely aligns herself with the hard rock community but wants her wardrobe, like her attitude, to say ‘don’t take your eyes off me’.

R: What is your most and least favorite fashion for the winter season?

NK: I recently bought a vintage mustard yellow coat from the 50’s. I have a hard time finding modern winter coats that look as classy as vintage styles. Least favorite? I don’t quite know what to think of high-heeled rain boots.

R: Who is your favorite designer on the runway and for your personal style?

NK: I’m an avid thrift store shopper. I do a lot of traveling and seeking out local thrift stores in each new stop. It is a good way to get to know the town. You can tell a lot about a place by the clothes you find at its second-hand stores.

Some will be old industrial clothes from the factory in town that closed, some will be fancy vintage dresses from beauty pageants in the area.

As for modern designers, I really like Rag and Bone, and These Three Things.

R: What do you think is the most flattering men’s fashion?

NK: The more unique, the better. I really appreciate a guy’s quirky habits coming through in HIS clothes, whether it’s interesting color choices, borrowing his dad’s loafers or wearing a Spinal Tap t-shirt. Dressing to your personality always comes across as the most natural choice.

R: Give readers some dirt on an embarrassing fashion moment.

NK: I have a fashion problem that I have no intention of fixing. I cannot match my socks. It has been an ongoing problem since childhood. At this point, I have stopped trying to correct the problem and have just adapted it into my wardrobe. Depending on which leg I cross, you get a new complementary color to the outfit.

R: How has fashion affected your lifestyle?

NK: I think it might be more how my lifestyle has affected my style. I’m constantly on the go so clothes have to be packable and flexible. Right now most of my clothes revolve around the same fall color scheme so mixing and matching is never a problem. I like everything I own to go with everything else – that’s one of the rules an item must pass before [I] purchase.
