Richard Chai Runway Show NYFW F/W 2011 Video

The attendance at Richard Chai was surprisingly packed. If you recall last season, you’ll know that Chai was a front runner for the neo-grunge trend. For Fall/Winter, he is sticking to those roots with over-the-knee sweaters, and a new take on neutrals.

Sarah Drew: A Runway Magazine Exclusive Interview

Runway Magazine: You began your TV debut in 1997 when you lent your voice to the MTV cartoon series, Daria, as Stacey Rowe. You now star as a doctor on TV’s hottest show, Grey’s Anatomy. What has been your favorite role to play throughout your TV career?

Sarah Drew: Susie Pepper on Glee! She is so kooky and crazy. It’s really fun to get to be big and broad in a comedic role. I hope I get to return to Glee for an episode or two and bring back the crazy!!

R: When you’re not busy with rehearsals and filming, what are some hobbies you take part in during your down time?

SD: My husband and I love cooking, hosting and throwing parties. I’m incredibly passionate about community and L.A. is a hard place to find community, so I like to bring people into my home and allow friendships to form and community to grow. We cook dinner for twelve friends every Wednesday night. That’s my highlight of the week.

R: Tons of celebrities are heavily involved in various forms of philanthropy that many are not aware of. Do you support any non-profit organizations?

SD: My husband and I give away 10% of everything we make. We have 20 different organizations we support and really believe in. One of my favorites is My Sister’s Keeper. It is a women-led, women-focused, humanitarian action group currently focused on supporting the aspirations of women in the Sudan.

R: What future projects are you working on in terms of TV, Broadway or movies?

SD: Right now Grey’s Anatomy is keeping me super busy. I did just start writing- my writing partner Leonardo Nam and I just placed in the CAPE competition for the pilot we wrote called Becoming Kate.

R: What types of characters are you dying to play and why?

SD: I would like to play someone really dark and sexy. I’ve played a lot of virginal girl-next-door types. I’ve mastered awkward for sure. It would be cool to play a femme fatale type of character!

R: Fashion touches every aspect of the entertainment industry. How would you describe your personal style?

SD: My style is very eclectic. Sometimes I pull out the bad ass biker chick look, sometimes I’m dressed head to toe in Anthropologie and sometimes I rock the ‘20s, ‘50s or ‘60s vintage look. I like trying new things and having fun with all sorts of different looks.

Ben Elliot: If I can Dream

Runway Magazine: You used to live in Manhattan. Do you currently reside in NYC or LA?

Ben Elliot: Right now I am living in Los Angeles and I am starting to really enjoy it out here. Between the weather, geography, and it being the nucleus of the entertainment industry, I feel like I will be here for a while. I really like the overall Cali “vibe”.

R: Which city do you prefer in terms of acting gigs, nightlife, etcetera?

BE: Both New York City and Los Angeles are great places but if I had to pick one it would be New York. I have a great group of friends in the city and I have learned a lot of life lessons there. If you ask which city has better acting gigs, nightlife and energy? L.A. for the acting gigs, NY for the nightlife and both cities have great energy. Los Angeles is where movies and television shows have been made for years and it’s really exciting to be around that. New York is just, well, New York. I am really fortunate to have lived in both places and to have met the people I have met.

R: What would you say was the biggest challenge of living day-to-day with constant camera exposure on If I Can Dream?

BE: The most challenging part was always having to be clothed.

R: Do you have any upcoming projects? If so, what are they?

BE: I am going to be shooting some short films with a friend of mine who has been writing, producing and directing for a long time. I will also be going on auditions for TV/theatre/film roles and I have some modeling jobs coming up. I am really focusing on growing as an actor at the moment and getting into the work I am given in class. I love acting.

R: What hobbies are you involved in when you are not auditioning, doing photo shoots or filming?

BE: I play a lot of music and I am always at the gym. Music is a big part of my life. I have been playing saxophone since the fourth grade and jazz is my favorite genre to play with that. Jazz music is where it is at. I also play a lot of acoustic guitar with my friends and longboarding (skating) is another hobby of mine. Oh and watching hockey. GO SABRES!!!!

R: How would you describe your ideal girlfriend?

BE: Tall, tan, young and lovely. However, she has to be a girl who is just fun to be around. If she has a little spice to her, that is a good thing.

R: Speaking of girlfriend, do you have a current love interest? We are dying to know!

BE: Right now I am single but I almost feel like I am married to the craft of acting. I am interested in Adrianna Lima, but she doesn’t know who I am.

R: In regards to acting, would you prefer to pursue a career in theater, television or movies? Why?

BE: I would like to pursue a career in all three. My ultimate goal is to be in a well-written feature film but I would like to do television and theatre. I really want to do theatre because it pushes you as an actor and all the greats have done it. At the end of the day I just want to act and being in any of those three would be a dream come true.

R: Instead of playing a game of Fantasy Football, let’s play a game of Fantasy Movie Cast. Who would you absolutely LOVE to work with in a film?

BE: I am just going to list them off: Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Edward Norton, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio and John Kirby as my acting coach on set. If I had the opportunity to work with any of those people that would be the greatest thing.

Duckie Brown Runway Show NYFW F/W 2011

When the first model turned the corner at Duckie Brown, it was clear that designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver were up to something. Present were the usual immaculate manoeuvrings of fabrics like tweed and wool; and the ”bespoke” elements that turn a sweater into a chic straightjacket and a pair of pants into much-improved harem trousers. I say bespoke here because Duckie Brown has a specific client, and they want that specificity from Duckie Brown. What was new was the unmistakable minimalism: muted tones, almost no accessories. But as we said before, we like less, a lot.

Jill Stuart Runway Show NYFW F/W 2011 Video

Jill Stuart moved her show to The Stage at Lincoln Center this season and with the migration came a shift in aesthetic to a more sophisticated silhouette. The Fall 2011 collection went into the wild with owl, fox, and eagle prints; faux fur coats and accessories made a fierce statement . The color palette was dominated by navy, maroon, camel, green, brown, and scarlet in fabric combinations of suede, leather, wool, and silk. The Jill Stuart girl is growing up, while still managing to maintain her youthful exuberance.

Fabricio Werdum: Fashionable and Deadly

Runway Magazine: Since your submission win over Fedor Emelianenko, you’ve really gotten noticed. How are you handling all of this attention?

Fabricio Werdum: It feels great to receive accolades from fans and your peers. I am grateful for this, however I know that now more than ever, I need to remain focused on my craft and train harder than ever. It’s wonderful to be able to be in the public eye more—as it allows me the opportunity to interact with fans and that interaction inspires me to train harder. Yet, I have deepened my commitment and resolve to continue to be the best fighter that I can be.

R: Fedor Emelianenko recently commented in the media that you are “trying to avoid [him] and delay the rematch”; how do you feel about this?

FW: I quite honestly don’t agree with Fedor’s comment. I have commented many times to the press about wanting a rematch with Fedor. I even agreed to have the rematch in Russia. It’s no secret that I have recently had surgery and upon my return to the ring, I am more than willing to fight Fedor.

R: Speaking of your surgery, how are you feeling? And why did you feel the need to take a break at the height of your game to have surgery?

FW: I’m doing well. My elbow is healing and I am very much looking forward to my return to the ring. I felt it was necessary to have the surgery so that I can fight at top level. I want to give my all – I cannot possibly give my all while being injured. The injury greatly inhibited my range of movement.

R: In addition to your own illustrious career, you are training fighters through your Werdum Combat Team. What inspires you to train, and how does it differ from actually fighting?

FW: That’s a good question. Having the opportunity to train other young fighters gives me the opportunity to impart my knowledge while remembering the art of the fight. While some of the steps in training may be [considered] basic to others, I feel it’s extremely important to remain well versed in the steps of fighting. I get this through training. Training differs from an actual fight in that there’s a certain amount of natural instinct that goes into a live fight. There’s a certain amount of adrenaline and personal style that goes into my fights, therefore, when I’m in an actual fight, I am utilizing techniques while imparting a part of my natural abilities against my opponent.

R: What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a professional MMA fighter?

FW: My advice would be to eat, sleep and breathe your craft. There is always someone who got up an hour earlier and trained an hour longer. Therefore, you must be passionate enough about your craft to focus without distraction. I would also say don’t get caught up in the fanfare surrounding a professional MMA career. Fight because you are passionate not because you will gain fame. And when you do gain fame, use it to help others. Keep a good team around you and stay grounded.

R: Speaking of staying grounded, how do you unwind?

FW: I unwind by spending time with my wife and daughter. Having a supportive family keeps me going. I also spend time with my close friends.

MEET PETREL

Consisting of sisters Jessica, Rebekah, and Destiny, you may recognize this infectious pop/rock band for their 17-city national tour opening for Razor&Tie’s platinum selling Kidz Bop series. Having sold out crowds at stadiums across the U.S., the girls have now set their sites on making music history with powerhouse ballads, funky fashion, and a sister bond that is unbreakable.

Petrel just released their latest single BOMSHELL and fans can’t get enough of these multitalented sisters.

We recently caught up with Petrel to discuss their unique fashion, obsession with jewelry and how… if you aren’t careful, Petrel may drop a Bombshell on you!

Your latest single is entitled “Bombshell.” Is there a story behind the name of the song? Have you girls ever dropped a bombshell?

Yes, of course! You know, being girls, we usually have some stuff going on in our personal lives that make a good story. Being sisters, we always have each other to talk to and we try to be honest with one another. Needless to say we’re always dropping bombshells on each other because we talk to each other straight! When we wrote Bombshell, we had our close friend in mind. Her boyfriend was such a loser… he was hitting on one of us and every other girl too! We knew we had to tell her… so we did! We had to let her know she was too good for him!

Where did the name PETREL come from?

Well, our last name is Petrello. When we were thinking of band names we just decided to shorten that since a lot of our friends always referred to us as the Petrel’s or Petrel girls. It’s still kind of our last name, but a little catchier. …like, Petrel!

How would you describe Petrel’s style?

We’re a band, Destiny plays guitar, Rebekah keys and drums, and Jessica is the lead singer. Our music is definitely pop/rock. We’re inspired by artists like No Doubt, Pink & Heart. As far as fashion goes, we have a very NY style. Can’t help it, we were born & raised there! That means a lot of leather, denim & studs. You can usually find us hanging out at a diner or something eating Greek salads & sipping milkshakes.

As sisters, do you find that you tend to gravitate towards to the same designers and trends?

Even though we’re sisters, we all have our own unique styles. Jess is definitely the girliest. She’s loves a great legging or funky pair of heels. Anything Betsey Johnson she usually likes but always mixes vintage pieces into her look to make it her own. Bek has a preppier style. She’s usually rockin her fitted blazer or a harem pant. Dest is a total rocker. She makes a lot of her stuff; She draws on her sneakers and adds some crazy pins to her favorite denim jackets. We are all pretty much obsessed with jewelry! It’s funny because in our Youtube videos you can totally hear all of our bracelets jingling while we sing & play.

What can we expect from Petrel in the near future?

Twitter is always the easiest way to keep up with us! http://twitter.com/petrelsisters. We’re going non-stop right now! We’re about to start doing shows in the LA area since we recently moved to the West Coast! We were just asked by Monique Coleman from “High School Musical” to perform at the UN in August for the International Youth Day. That should be fun! Our song Bombshell is blowing up on Youtube too and we’re super excited about that! Touring is in the works for Summer 2011 and you can check out PetrelMusic.com for details and dates sometime this spring.
