At Runway, when it comes to fashion and ideas, we like to think outside the box. Besides the general eye shadow, manicures and clothing options, we wanted to look for something that stood out and really made a statement. The hottest designers of spring 2014 are showing us that you can add sparkle in unexpected places, while still keeping your look classic and not too over the top.

Christian Dior tops the list of my favorite use of gold metallic this season. Perfectly sculpted, and truly artistic, the models of the S/S 2014 Dior show walked with golden eyebrows by makeup artist Pat McGrath. To achieve this bold and beautiful look, McGrath bleached the brows of the models before applying a mix of liquid gold pigment and micro glitter. Makeup was kept simple, with just a cream foundation and a nude balm on the lips. It made the eyes pop and accented the Dior line beautifully. A great statement look to try at a party this season.

Another fun infusion of gold was spotted backstage for the Dries Van Notens Spring show. Wanting to accent the opulence of his new line, he wanted hairlines and eyelashes to reflect a golden sparkle. Calling the technique “poetic”, makeup artist Peter Philips created a look that is easy for any woman to recreate. Beautiful for a party or night out, you start by sharply parting your hair once it is blown out and glossed. Mix strips of gold leaf with hair wax and paint along the part for a look that is truly refined. Going the extra step, if you have the time and patience, you can accent the lashes as Philips did. He carefully placed cut pieces of golden string along the lash lines with tweezers and professional grade makeup adhesive. Though time intensive, it truly does add something magical to the overall look.

Former Hills alum and fashion mogul, Lauren Conrad, showed a grown up twist to the temporary tattoo on her official website and we found it too cute not to include on our list. By using a simple stencil, fine glitter and lash glue, you can create “tattoos” that can take place of jewelry to accent your outfit. A technique that is both easy and youthful.

Lastly, a favorite new spin on the manicure is the reverse manicure. Instead of having glittered or lightly hued tips, you incorporate glitter in a half moon shape on your cuticle for a look that is unique. The most popular combo for spring? Gold glitter with pastel hued polish, try a baby pink or mint green for a trendsetting combination.

Always remember, a little sparkle goes along way. And, if you find yourself in a time crunch but need a hint of glam, a sparkling pair of diamond studs can be added to any ensemble for an instant beauty lift.
