Orange is the New Black premieres Thursday, July 11th on Netflix.

We are so excited for your new show on Netflix, without giving too much away, can you tell us about your character and the first season of Orange is the New Black?

Dayanara is reserved. She’s different from her upbringing in that she’s somewhat vulnerable, and loves and seeks love. She has that spunk, however, that is unexpected. It is not a good idea to push her buttons.

Since Netflix puts all episodes out on the same day, is there a specific episode you are most excited to see? For your fans to see?

I’m excited about my flashback because it brings understanding and compassion to my character. They are all good though! I am featured in all the episodes, so the fans will get to enjoy Dayanara throughout the season.

The show is very female dominated. Are you close with your castmates? Any fun stories from set?

Oh my gosh! This is what is sooo crazy. I have always had a male dominated group of friends in the past. Surprisingly, I have met castmates that have become such good friends and just support each other on and off set.

Funny stories… It’s like a funny compilation of essays. From drawing each other to composing raps about kegels, sleeping on one another, making jokes, and shopping online on set! It’s like a big slumber party.. and oh don’t bring out the alcohol because we will not blame it on it at all.

As you may know, we are a fashion magazine and we hear you are into fashion. With Summer just around the corner, what are some of your ‘must-have’ items this season?

My must have items are maxi dresses, long skirts, tights, backless shirts… basically comfort.

In Orange is the New Black, most of the characters don’t get to showcase their individual style due to the prison uniform, so please tell us about your personal style. How would you dress your character if you had the opportunity? What is your style like off screen?

Dayanara… She is a little conservative due to her weight, but she grew up in the hood– so it is about the tight jeans, tees, big earrings, sneakers, uggs or other very urban trends.

My style off screen… I love mod vintage. I am daring and I will rock holographic shoes with a 1950 dress or chunky sandals with baggy shorts and a tank. I definitely dress for my mood.

Who are some of your favorite designers?

Oh gees! I can’t decide. I honestly love all fashion for one reason or another.

Within your career, you must have had some long days on set. If you could only bring one beauty product out of your trailer to have on you, what would it be?

Lip balm

Do you have any exciting summer plans?

I am in the midst of moving to a new place. I will be boxing more and working on my health, and of course enjoying the weather with my family.
