Kristen Stewart Goes Topless for Balenciaga Florabotanica Campaign
By Runway Magazine Editorial Team
Kristen Stewart once again pushed fashion boundaries with her striking new campaign for Balenciaga’s Florabotanica fragrance. The actress appeared topless in the black-and-white perfume advertisement, continuing the fearless image transformation that has defined her post-Twilight career.
The campaign image features Stewart posing with her back turned toward the camera, revealing only a subtle glimpse of side profile while colorful floral vines wrap dramatically across her bare skin. The artistic styling blends sensuality with high-fashion minimalism, reinforcing Balenciaga’s reputation for provocative luxury imagery.

Stewart’s dark hair is styled into a sleek chignon, paired with smoky eye makeup and glossy lips that create an elegant contrast against the monochrome photography. The result is a campaign that feels modern, cinematic, and unmistakably tied to the edgy aesthetic that made Florabotanica one of the brand’s most recognizable fragrance launches.
The actress first became the face of the Balenciaga fragrance line in 2012 through her close relationship with former creative director Nicolas Ghesquière. When Ghesquière exited the fashion house and Alexander Wang took over creative direction, speculation quickly surfaced regarding Stewart’s future with the brand. However, the actress remained closely associated with the fragrance campaign, strengthening her status as one of fashion’s most unconventional luxury ambassadors.
In an earlier interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Stewart described her connection to Florabotanica as natural and instinctive rather than traditionally glamorous. She explained that she never related to stereotypical ideas of perfume marketing and instead preferred authenticity over overt sensuality. That attitude helped shape the campaign’s distinctive tone and separated it from more conventional celebrity fragrance advertising.
Beyond the Balenciaga campaign, Stewart was also undergoing a dramatic image shift while filming Sils Maria in Berlin. The actress dyed her hair jet black for the role and appeared with temporary tattoos as part of the film’s styling transformation. Directed by Olivier Assayas, the drama stars Stewart alongside Juliette Binoche and Chloë Grace Moretz.
The project generated additional media attention because Stewart stepped into a role previously attached to Mia Wasikowska. The cast also included Tom Sturridge, who was widely known at the time as a close friend of Stewart’s former boyfriend Robert Pattinson.
Stewart’s Balenciaga campaign ultimately reinforced her growing reputation as one of Hollywood’s most fashion-forward actresses. Rather than relying on traditional glamour, she built an image rooted in artistic risk-taking, understated confidence, and unconventional beauty.
