The history of Skin & Co Roma dates all the way back to 1911, when Sabatino and Giuseppina Balestra began producing and selling hygiene products, oils and more in Umbria, a region in central Italy located between Rome and Florence. The Balestra family sought to supply their customers with products delivered straight from their farm with the philosophy to “provide the freshest products, while preserving their lands.” Three generations later, Skin & Co Roma maintains this same philosophy. Gabriel Balestra, Skin & Co Roma’s Executive Director and great grandson of founders Sabatino and Giuseppina Balestra, notes that Skin & Co has been “a family owned and managed business for the past over 100 years,” and asserts that the company’s philosophy has not strayed from its original state. “All our products and all of our extracts come from nature, so we sort of have to give back,” he says.

Skin & Co claims to use nothing in their products that could harm the environment, leaving parabens and sulfates out. The same recipes that were created decades ago form the basis for Skin & Co products today.

“The majority of our ingredients are all-natural or from organic origins,” says Balestra.

Skin & Co Roma sells products that cater to the face, body and hair including moisturizers, toners, cleansers, and travel products. The company’s two main product lines are Sicilian orange and truffle, the company’s signature ingredient.

“The truffle is our anti-aging line and our more expensive product just because of the rare extracts it contains,” says Balestra.

Other products include ingredients like rosemary, lavender, olive oil and honey. And despite Skin & Co Roma’s growing international following, most of these ingredients are still grown in the Mediterranean area.

Today, Skin & Co Roma products are distributed in three continents. They are available via The Shopping Channel, Dermstore.com, and Henri Bendel in New York, as well as direct from the Skin & Co Roma website.
